Audiences adore Jaymee Mak for her role as Mackenzie on “Supergirl,” and will now get the chance to see her on Jordan Peele’s new “The Twilight Zone.” Born in Melbourne, Australia the actress and filmmaker started out as a Game Designer and is currently the Community Manager for Hempire, a weed-growing mobile game. Get to know Jaymee’s passion for acting and video games.

Colleen Bement: Jordan Peele’s “The Twilight Zone” is on everyone’s radar this week. What was your experience like on the set?

Jaymee Mak: Imagine the longest airplane ride you’ve ever been on.
Now imagine you’re on that airplane for two weeks, but you get to watch Adam Scott do his craft, and sometimes the top of the aircraft lifts up so they can do cool dolly shots.

CB: You are completely adorable as Mackenzie on “Supergirl.” I love your outfits, I love your hair. Tell my readers about your cool recurring role on “Supergirl.”

JM: Fun fact: When I auditioned for Mackenzie, the casting breakdown said “Do not play her bitchy.”

So the scene where Mackenzie swoops in and steals the article from under Nia Nal’s nose in Season 4 Episode 1? I played her super down to earth but confident AF. She knows her stuff and she‘s truly passionate about fashion.

Fast-forward to my first day on set and we’ve just rehearsed.

Director: “So… could you play her SUPER bitchy? Just let go and have fun with her. We can always pull you back if you go too far.”
They did not pull me back. 😘

CB: Tell your fans about your projects “How to Ruin the Perfect Game Jam” and “It’s Not You, It’s Not Me.”

JM: I currently have one fan in my apartment and it is READY for summer, Vancouver! “How to Ruin the Perfect Game Jam” is like “The Office” but set at the Vancouver Global Game Jam. Also, prepare for Bao-esque feels if you too have Asian mommy issues. ❤️

“It’s Not You, It’s Not Me.” is about a couple trying to make their relationship work after realizing that one of them is asexual (meaning they don’t experience sexual attraction). Both short films are in post-production and we’re hoping to release them by summer this year (2019).

CB: I see that you’re a Game Designer. Two questions:
1.) How do you manage your time between acting and gaming?

JM: While I did go to Vancouver Film School for Game Design and I’ve previously worked as a Game Designer and User Experience Designer, I’m currently the Community Manager for Hempire, a weed-growing mobile game.

I’m really lucky to have a job that allows me to make my own hours and supports my filmmaking dreams, so the company’s bought my loyalty.
Basically, any time that I’m not working, eating or exercising, I’m watching, working or obsessively thinking about films.

2.) What is your latest favorite game that you just can’t put down?

JM: To be honest, ever since I decided to become serious about filmmaking, I don’t really play games anymore. I do love playing board games with friends though – Codenames in particular.

CB: I saw that you’re involved with Hempire and I LOVE the description of it: The World’s Best Cannabis Growing Game and Community! Is it reminiscent of Farmville?

JM: We’re like FarmVille but with cannabis. Also better. 😉
