Actor. Director. Writer. Singer.
Julia Best Warner started performing as early as she could talk. A successful director she is known for her work in “The Baby Sitters Pub,” is a writer of the film short “Tick Tock,” and can be seen playing a nurse in Netflix’s new series “Ratched” opposite Sarah Paulson. Julia tuned up her singing voice to be featured on a song called F•R•A•G•I•L•E by Guy John that came out last week. Get to know this talent in her up-close Nerd Alert News interview.
Colleen Bement: You play a nurse in Nextlifx’s new series “Ratched” and our readers would love to hear about your role. Tell us about your character and your experience on the set.
Julia Best Warner: Yes! I play a young nurse in the last two episodes of the series. She is part of a new guard of nurses in the hospital who are running the show without any doctors to report to. My first day on set I was able to watch a scene being filmed between Judy Davis and Amanda Plummer. It was incredible to watch them work. It felt like a free master class in acting, professionalism, and play. I also got to have a scene with Sarah Paulson who is a gem of a person and actor.
CB: “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest” freaked me out as a teen when I saw it. Have you watched it and what did you think of the original Nurse Ratched?
JBW: I rewatched “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest” during quarantine! Such a wonderful film. I was actually surprised at the character of Nurse Ratched. My memory of her was that she was ruthless, calculated, and unlikable, but in rewatching, I found that I wasn’t as bothered by her. She was playing by the rules that were set within the hospital. It seemed that she was trying to do her job to the best of her ability which didn’t leave much room for her to have empathy.
CB: How did you catch the acting bug? Did you start out as a kid or fall in love with it later?
JBW: As soon as I could talk I was singing and that turned into putting on little plays and performing for anyone that would watch. No one ever prompted me to do act or sing and I didn’t really have an inspiration to start, I just did. I think performing was probably my first love.
CB: Tell us about your project “The Baby Bitters Pub.” Is there someplace that people can view it?
CB: Yes! “The Baby Sitters Pub” was a passion project that I dreamt up one summer during a rough babysitting job. I created a 6 part mini-series with a few friends of mine, following the lives of 4 creatives in NYC who all happen to be babysitters. It’s still up on YouTube…for now. Just search “The Baby Sitters Pub”
CB: Do you have any projects in the works that you’re allowed to share with us?
JBW: I’ve started singing again during Quarantine! I was featured on the song F•R•A•G•I•L•E by Guy John that came out last week. I’m also working on some music of my own that you can look out for.
CB: Let’s get to know you better with a “speed round.”
