Blade and Soul has been playable on the PC since 2012. This year, an offshoot of the MOBA MMO has found its way onto mobile devices. It is available for Android and iOS, we took a closer look at the free title to find out how much Pay2Win is in it. Every opinion made here is of course purely subjective.

A difficult start

First of all, for those not too familiar with MOBA MMOs, so some of my views might surprise the die-hard connoisseurs, but the statements are subjective from the point of view of a beginner. Why we mention this is because during the first lesson some may have problems figuring out what all the menus and improvements were doing and how should one even begin to skill one’s character. So many opportunities for improvement and menus, as a newbie you can feel a little lost. However, once you have an overview of what may take a while, everything is structured logically.

Apart from the first overwhelming demand in the face of all the possibilities, Blade and Soul: Revolution is pretty fresh for a mobile game. Graphically perhaps not what is possible on mobile devices these days, but a respectable game. The controls can be a bit clunky, with a ton of buttons and controls spread across the screen, so why not just use a controller. Unfortunately, if you have the train of thought, you can quickly bury it again, a Playstation or Xbox controller will not work. Since you can’t remap the keys either, this is the end of the line. We weren’t able to use an Android controller for testing because none was available, but we can assume that it won’t work either. So you have to get used to the on-screen control, which is well implemented but can demand a lot from an inexperienced player.

Automatic? Yes!

Do you know the nice games like AFK Arena or other idle representatives? Then you should be familiar with the auto-fight function. Blade and Soul: Revolution also makes use of such a function. The auto-quest function, which guides you through the storyline and fights the fights. Everything controlled by the AI, which can be very interesting if you don’t feel like playing yourself but want to drive progress. So you can let the campaign splash around in PVE mode until you can go to PVP or dungeons. But precisely at the point PVP, we come to the topic of Pay2Win.

In order to survive in Blade and Soul: Revolution you need good gear, but you can usually only get this from boxes that you open. The problem is, the chances of getting good gear are very slim. To get this, you have to open a few boxes, but this will not always work with free boxes. So you have to invest real money to be able to play at the top. At this point, you have to decide whether I want to play PVP and get involved up there as well? Then you will not be able to avoid an investment. A little PVE banter with a few dungeons is enough for you, so you can get along well without investment. So everyone has to decide for themselves what they want. In terms of PVE, a solid MOBA MMO is offered, which can entertain you over long distances. Even the story behind Blade and Souls: Revolution knows how to inspire. You have to remember, of course, that it is a mobile game, but it is a nice pastime if you are on the go and want to play a little.

Conclusion

Blade and Soul: Revolution is a solid MOBA MMO offshoot of the PC version. Of course, as with almost all MOBA MMOs, if you want to get involved in PVP at the top, you can’t avoid a financial stake. However, those who enjoy PVE, conquer dungeons or simply enjoy grinding can do so without a financial investment. In short, Blade and Soul: Revolution is a really successful title for friends of the MOBA MMO genre, and let’s be honest, it’s definitely worth a look for free.
