Ahead of Will Smith’s epic new adventure series, “Welcome to Earth,” National Geographic and Westbrook Studios announced a five-year unscripted deal to bring audiences of all ages adventure, exploration, travel, and science. This is exciting news as no one makes science and exploration more interesting than National Geographic. This announcement was made during Nat Geo’s virtual TCA summer session.
Set to premiere on Disney+ later this year, “Welcome to Earth” promises an awe-inspiring global journey to unlock the secrets of the most extraordinary and unexplained phenomena of nature. National Geographic Explorers will guide Will Smith to different corners of the world and get up close and personal with some amazing and interesting places. Smith is going to need some bravery to do things like climb into a live volcano, traverse huge waterfalls, and be especially daring to go more than 3,000 feet below the sea. According to Nat Geo, their mission is to seek out the things and places beyond human perception: the hidden worlds that we can’t see, smell, hear or feel.
According to National Geographic Content President Courteney Monroe, having spent the past two years working with Will and the team at Westbrook Studios (along with Darren Aronofsky and Nutopia) on WELCOME TO EARTH, we are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with them and entering into a long-term partnership to produce blockbuster nonfiction content. Will and Westbrook share our passion for telling bold, best-in-class stories that ignite curiosity and inspire people to explore and care about our world, and we can’t wait to see where our next adventures together take us.
Monroe continued by saying that he and Smith were thrilled to partner with National Geographic to bring the astonishing imagery of nature and science to screens around the world. The Co-President and Head of Television, Terence Carter, went on to say that they strive to empower artists to tell stories that connect humanity, and Courteney and the entire Nat Geo team share that vision. The venture plans to bring audiences stories about the wonder and beauty of our world through exploration of all that is possible our amazing planet.
Get ready to nerd out over these adventures with the guy who “saved us” all from the aliens in “Independence Day,” Will Smith himself.
