Big thanks to Deadline’s Contenders TV for hosting a panel featuring the cast of one of the most creative shows on TV: “Shrinking.” Apple TV+’s fresh new comedy finished up its first season of with legendary Harrison Ford in a role like you’ve never seen. Stay tuned for a well-deserved Emmy Nom! The panel included the show’s co-creator “Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, actors Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, and Christa Miller. The cast shared their excitement for the show’s success and discussed the various themes explored in the series. One of the highlights of the panel was when talked about their experiences working with Harrison Ford. Williams sang “Every Morning” by Sugar Ray with Ford onscreen and said the veteran actor said had the final, and only, say about which song they sang together. Williams said that she sent 10 songs and most of them were like, ‘no,’ It was mostly no, and it was the one that Harrison could stomach probably. That was the one he came back with. I cannot listen to that song without thinking of him anymore.

The cast also spoke about their appreciation for Ford’s unique fashion choices on set. Ford plays a veteran therapist and mentor to Segel’s character, a grieving widower therapist whose style with clients changes after his loss. Segel claims that Ford copied his wardrobe style. One day Segel wore a jumpsuit to set since he would change into his wardrobe anyway. He was eyeing the jumpsuit, Segel said. “I told him you checking out my flight suit, Harrison? (with a Harrison Ford impression.) Ford fired back I sure am, kid.’ Then the next day he showed up in a matching jumpsuit. He did bright pink.”

Christa Miller talked about Ford’s reckless driving of the golf carts on set. I was so afraid that I was going to just fly out of that golf cart by the time I got to set. He teases us too. He plays pranks and teases us, so we actually got to give him shit as well. He also gave her some tips on driving a car. Jessica Williams chimed in and added It’s Han f*cking Solo. He knows how to pilot something. If you’re going to listen to anybody, it’s him.

Apple TV+ has renewed “Shrinking” for a second season. Segel, who also co-created the series with Goldstein and Bill Lawrence, said the writers already working on season two. “In Season 1, grief was sort of the theme,” Segel said. In the writer’s room the goal is to pick another theme that carries us through the season. It’s like grounded and built on a journey towards hope and wellness but what is the next step after the immediate grief? What’s the next step in healing?” Goldstein didn’t want to give away Season 2, but he was very excited for the cast to perform those scripts. I can’t wait for them to say this now, Goldstein said. I think it’s easier to picture, and it’s slightly more exciting. You’ve got your action figures now, and you’re like, ‘What can we make them do?

Additionally, the cast discussed the important themes of mental health and went on to explain that while the series was a comedy, it also tackled some serious issues and encouraged viewers to have more compassion and empathy for themselves and others. The ‘Shrinking’ cast members seemed genuinely excited and grateful for the success of their show and the opportunity to continue exploring the characters’ stories in the upcoming second season. Fans can look forward to more laughs and heartfelt moments when ‘Shrinking’ returns to Apple TV.
