Free live music under a Colorado sky. Bring your own picnic. Bring the family. What could be better? Last night in Greenwood Village, CO, music fans were treated to a live concert from Bluegrass band Jake Leg. As part of the Museum of Outdoor Arts’ summer music program, people brought their blankets, chairs, and food for an evening of Bluegrass. The sun was hot, and once the band’s fingers touched the strings, the audience instantly chilled out. They even did a song for paranormal enthusiasts and completely nailed an Allman Brothers song. I didn’t even know fingers could move that fast!Â
The audience came with their own picnics, purchased beer, wine, and cocktails, and enjoyed a mid-week break. Feet were tapping, some couples got their two-step dancing in, and kids were being kids running around on a summer night with big smiles. Lockwood Barr opened the evening’s performance. She shared her stories and passion through her music and started the night off right with her soulful sweet sounds. Then, unfortunately, as with Colorado fashion, the wind picked up and a severe thunderstorm warning blew through. Just as the storm blew in and people were packing up, not everyone was ready to leave. Â
Although we could have enjoyed more of Jake Leg, the evening was still a delight. Marjorie Park Uncorked features live bluegrass music, stand up comedy shows, and live music happy hours. The next Uncorked will be July 23rd and will feature the Bluegrass band High Lonesome. The events are free and people can bring in their own food to enjoy a picnic. The park is just outside the Fiddler’s Green amphitheater and it’s a magical backdrop filled with art, grass, and open space. Thank you to The Museum of Outdoor Arts for hosting. Check out their website for event information and how to support them.
