Rising international star Herman Tømmeraas has built a career on charm, charisma, and undeniable screen presence, but in Sweetness, he trades all of that in for something far more raw and unsettling. Best known to global audiences for his breakout role in Skam (2015-2017), as well as standout performances in Home for Christmas (2025) and Ragnarok (2020-2023), Tømmeraas has steadily expanded his range across film and television, taking on roles that push beyond the expected heartthrob image. With Sweetness, he may have delivered his most emotionally demanding performance yet.

In the film, Tømmeraas plays Payton Adler, a troubled rock star caught in a downward spiral of addiction, fame, and vulnerability. What begins as a seemingly familiar story about a fan trying to “save” her idol quickly descends into something much darker, placing Payton in a harrowing and deeply personal fight for control and survival. It’s a role that requires him to navigate a wide emotional spectrum, from fragile and self-destructive to desperate and resourceful, often within the same scene.
We had the chance to sit down with Tømmeraas to talk about what drew him to such an intense project, how he approached the psychological complexity of Payton, and the challenges of bringing those heavy, claustrophobic moments to life on screen. From dissecting the film’s most demanding scenes to reflecting on its powerful final act, Tømmeraas offers insight into a performance that lingers long after the credits roll.
