Attendees of Denver’s Perpetual Groove concert felt like they had stepped into a living painting. Fans poured into the Perplexiplex at Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station well before showtime, turning the pre-show hour into a social ritual. Drinks in hand, past festival stories were shared and new friends were made. The bar kept the mood fun with offerings that included a hazy IPA from Platt Park Brewing Company, alongside wines and cocktails. The crowd dressed for the occasion, or maybe for the journey. Tie-dye swirled in the lights next to denim overalls and band t-shirts. All walks of life and all ages came together for the experience.
The Perplexiplex itself was a spectacle before a single note was played. The stage rose like a surreal cathedral, layered with color and geometric shapes. Color-changing clouds floated beneath the ceiling as if they were part of the setlist. The dance floor pulsed with different hues, while the surrounding walls wrapped the audience in immersive art: floating mushrooms, blooming flowers, twisting trees. The entire space leant itself perfectly into a kind of psychedelic mural that worked perfectly for the sounds of Perpetual Groove. When the music began, the sound system filled the room with the bass throbbing like a heartbeat. Even with eyes closed, one could still visualize the art.

Devotion ran deep in this crowd. Some fans talked about seeing the band whenever possible. One attendee described the night with a grin, praising both the sound and the atmosphere of the Perplexiplex, and noting the excitement that comes only with a sold-out show. Celebrating 25 years, Perpetual Groove returned with the improvisational spirit and emotional songwriting that built their following in the first place. The Athens, Georgia band has long blended progressive rock, funk, and exploratory jams into something fluid and deeply communal. The return of founding drummer Albert Suttle added another layer of nostalgia for the crowd. The result was music that breathed a groove into everyone there.
Just as a heads up, parking around Meow Wolf could be a bit limited, so many fans opted for light rail and Ubers. Others arrived early, snagged a spot, and wandered over to The Original Brooklyns. This place was a brief walk away and was a cozy, old-school sports bar with plenty of character. It was kind of perfect for a pre-show drink.
Meow Wolf’s experiences are unique and always worth exploring. The Perplexiplex continues to host an eclectic lineup from bands like The Unlikely Candidates and Sploinky Rave to Twin Diplomacy, Dry Cleaning, The Wedding Present, and more. Events at Meow Wolf can’t be missed so be sure to stay glued to their calendar.
