As independent horror continues to push boundaries and explore deeper, more human stories, few recent films have made an impression quite like House of Abraham. Following our review of the film, Nerd Alert News had the opportunity to sit down with its director, Lisa Belcher, to go behind the scenes of one of the most impactful psychological thrillers in recent years.

Belcher brings a unique and well rounded perspective to filmmaking, with experience spanning directing, acting, producing, and writing. Having worked across both Hong Kong and the United States, she has built a career defined by versatility and a strong creative voice. She is also the founder of Jump Rock Pictures, an Austin-based production company focused on bringing bold, character driven stories to life.

Before making her directorial feature debut with House of Abraham, Belcher established herself on the festival circuit with a series of acclaimed short films. Her heartfelt drama Guest of Honor earned an impressive 23 awards and was acquired by a major non-profit, while Javelina Run, a comedy western starring Lorelei Linklater and Wally Welch, picked up multiple honors (including Best Director) and was later distributed through ShortsTV and Amazon Prime. The film’s soundtrack even secured a spot on Movie Score Media’s Best Short Soundtracks album in 2020, further highlighting the breadth of her creative work. In addition, she has directed a television series sizzle for a young adult fantasy thriller currently being developed and pitched through APA.

All of that experience culminates in House of Abraham, a film that showcases Belcher’s ability to craft atmosphere, guide powerful performances, and tackle complex themes with confidence and intention. It’s a project that not only marks a major milestone in her career, but also signals an exciting future ahead.

In our interview, Belcher opens up about the inspiration behind the film, her approach to building its controlled and immersive tone, and the challenges of bringing such a layered story to life on an independent scale. She also shares insight into collaborating with a standout cast, navigating the film’s heavier subject matter, and what’s next on her creative horizon.

House of Abraham is now available digitally on Prime Video, Apple TV,  Google Play, and YouTube. For those that prefer something tangible, the Blu-ray and DVD are available at Movie Zyng.
