Friday nights have a new show for sci-fi lovers, and nobody does it better than Apple TV.
The platform has dropped an exciting trailer for Star City, a thrilling new alternate-history drama set in the same universe as For All Mankind. It will be interesting to hear the Russian side of the story in this alternate world of For All Mankind. It’s based on an exciting and stressful part of our world’s history, and it gives us a whole “what if” scenario. What if Russia had landed on the Moon first? What if they colonized the Moon? The United States had landed humans on the lunar surface six times during the Apollo missions from 1969 – 1972, while Russia never did. In For All Mankind, the US established a base called Jamestown, and the Soviets built theirs months later. In the seasons following, the US went colonize Mars. It is currently in its 5th season and is expected to film a 6th. Star City should prove to be a fascinating take on alt-history, and fans are looking forward to it.

This time, the story steps behind the Iron Curtain. According to Apple TV, “Star City is a propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward.”
The show comes from award-winning creators Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore, and the first season will consist of eight episodes. It will expand on the world fans have hailed as one of the best sci-fi shows in years. Star City premieres on May 29 with two episodes, followed by a new installment every Friday through July 10th. The cast includes new and familiar faces with Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey, Alice Englert, Solly McLeod, Adam Nagaitis, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Josef Davies, and Priya Kansara.
