Lucky number 13 has officially entered the building, although, ironically, many high-rise buildings don’t even have a 13th floor. For horror fans, that number is anything but innocent. Thirteen has been tangled up with bad luck and superstition for centuries, and horror fans have long embraced that creepy little reputation. The ‘Friday the 13th’ movies only helped cement 13 as a number that feels right at home in the horror world. So naturally, ‘American Horror Story’ landing on season 13 feels pretty iconic. Who’s feeling lucky now?

The three-episode premiere arrived September 24, 2026, on FX, and viewers were immediately thrown into the shock and awe ‘AHS’ has been delivering since season one. They were on the edge of their seats, caught up in a manic little thrill that only ‘AHS’ seems to inspire. And, naturally, there is plenty of the visceral horror the series has always loved—including, rather unmistakably, a lot of gushing from various orifices.
For fans who have been there since the beginning, expectations for season 13 were always going to be high. ‘American Horror Story’ has a way of sinking its claws in through unforgettable characters, bizarre storylines, incredible performances and storytelling that somehow makes horror beautiful. That strange contradiction has always been part of the show’s magic. Thirteen seasons in, it has horrifically exceeded those expectations.
The seasons of ‘American Horror Story’ have never exactly stayed in their own little boxes. If anything, it feels like each character’s brain is its own haunted house, and somehow, those houses keep finding doors into one another. ‘Apocalypse’ certainly had its fun bringing pieces of ‘Murder House’ and ‘Coven’ together, so crossovers are nothing new. But season 13 seems to be leaning hard into that history. Characters and pieces of the story from across previous seasons begin to blend together, making it feel almost like everything that came before has been leading to this moment. For longtime viewers, those connections are delicious. For anyone new to ‘AHS’, though, the shifting timelines and familiar faces can get a little confusing. Watching all 12 previous seasons would certainly help, but it isn’t necessarily required to walk through this particular season.

Then come the returning characters, and suddenly it feels a little like having dead friends reappear. Familiar faces create an unmistakable feeling of homecoming while raising the biggest question of all: HOW IN THE HELL IS AHS GOING TO PULL IT OFF THIS TIME? Jessica Lange and Evan Peters are among the returning favorites, joined by Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts and others. Even Twisty the Clown is back, because apparently some nightmares are perfectly happy return.
And then there is Ryan Murphy (creator and executive producer), whose brain must be a brilliant nightmare of frightening ideas, somehow turning this tale into something so kooky, grotesque and irresistible that viewers simply cannot look away. This is ‘AHS’, after all. Fans can try to guess what is coming, connect every possible dot and convince themselves they have figured it out. They probably haven’t—and honestly, that is part of the fun.
Even the soundtrack harkens back to the beginning. When those familiar sounds play, many longtime viewers are instantly transported back to ‘Murder House’, where the ‘AHS’ journey began. Thirteen seasons suddenly feel much closer together. The characters, callbacks and musical echoes give ‘American Horror Story: 13’ an uncanny feeling that the circle is beginning to complete itself.
So what comes next? That’s the question. ‘American Horror Story: 13’ feels like walking into a haunted house knowing full well something horrifying is waiting inside—and going through the door anyway. New episodes air Thursdays at 9 p.m. on FX and stream simultaneously on Hulu. The season continues with three episodes on October 1, followed by two episodes each Thursday through October 22, before the 13th and final episode arrives October 29.
STAY TUNED. Lucky number 13 has arrived, and there is plenty more horror waiting behind that door.
