Pop punk has always had a knack for turning life’s messiest moments into songs you can’t help but sing along to. Chicago band Cliffhanger is leaning into that tradition, pairing infectious hooks with heavier guitar riffs and the kind of emotional honesty that makes a song stick long after the final note. With their new four track EP, Brain Bleed, arriving October 23, Cliffhanger is giving listeners another reason to turn up the volume. Featuring a brand new title track alongside three previously released songs, the release offers a snapshot of the band’s sound while setting the stage for what’s next: a planned full-length album, All That’s In Between, expected in 2027.

Cliffhanger draws inspiration from some familiar names in the pop punk world, including New Found Glory, Neck Deep, and Four Year Strong. Each brings something different to the mix, from the infectious hooks of classic pop punk to modern melodic songwriting and punchier, heavier instrumentation. That combination gives the band’s sound room to be both energetic and emotionally grounded. Pop punk has always had a way of pairing upbeat instrumentals with lyrics that hit a little closer to home, and Cliffhanger continues to work within that tradition while carving out their own place in the independent music scene.

The band has also put in the work to build their presence beyond the recording studio. Their history includes performances at Vans Warped Tour and Riot Fest Presents, sold out shows, independent releases, and appearances alongside acts such as Belmont, Keep Flying, and We Were Sharks. It’s a track record that reflects the band’s commitment to growing their audience while staying connected to the independent music community.

The upcoming EP features four songs: “Brain Bleed,” “Tripped (into Madness),” “Pavement,” and “Come Back.” While three tracks have already been released as singles, the title track gives listeners something new to discover when the complete project arrives. Bringing those songs together also creates an opportunity for new listeners to get a better feel for the band without having to dig through their entire back catalog. For longtime followers, the release puts the new title track alongside music they’ve already had time to connect with.

The band describes the title track, “Brain Bleed,”  as “a catchy, cathartic pop punk song about gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and trying to move on from someone who refuses to stay out of your head.” It’s the kind of subject matter that fits naturally into pop punk’s tradition of turning complicated emotions and difficult experiences into songs listeners can connect with. That ability to channel complicated feelings into melodic, guitar driven music remains an important part of the genre’s appeal, and it’s a quality that fits naturally into Cliffhanger’s musical identity.

While Brain Bleed is the immediate focus, Cliffhanger has an even bigger release on the horizon. The band is planning to follow the EP with its full length album, All That’s In Between, expected in 2027. The four track EP serves as a preview of that larger project, with all four songs set to appear on the album. For listeners discovering Cliffhanger now, that means there’s more music on the way beyond this October release.

A new EP can be an exciting milestone for an independent band, especially when it offers a glimpse of a larger body of work still taking shape. It gives listeners a chance to connect with the current material while building anticipation for what comes next. With their blend of melodic hooks, driving guitars, and emotionally direct songwriting, Cliffhanger is continuing to build on the sound that has carried them through years of independent releases and live performances.

Brain Bleed arrives digitally on October 23, 2026, and will be available through Bandcamp and major streaming platforms. For anyone who loves pop punk that combines big hooks with a little more weight behind the guitars, Cliffhanger’s Brain Bleed is one to keep on the radar. With a new EP arriving this week and a full length album planned for next year, the Chicago band has plenty more to share with listeners.
