Colorado Springs, CO was where all the action was on Aug. 25-27, 2017 at the brand new Altered Reality Event Center. Just in its sophomore year, Colorado Springs Comic Con appears to have tripled in size and it hosted some of the biggest names in pop culture. The three-day convention spiked on Saturday with huge crowds and plenty of action. There were “Power Rangers” and “Sooper Troopers,” horror stars and 80s icons, and fans of all ages had the chance to meet them all. The celebrity area was nicely set up in a way that attendees could stroll through the aisles and be just feet away from their favorites.
One of the recurring comments from the attendees was the impressive caliber of celebrity guests. “The Walking Dead” fans had dropped jaws as they spotted Michael Rooker, Scott Wilson, Jon Bernthal, Tom Payne, Ross Marquand, Kyla Kenedy, Elizabeth Ludlow, and Jeremy Palko. Big names in the biz like Billy Dee Williams, Lou Diamond Phillips, James Marsters, and Sean Maher were happy to greet their fans. A young married couple happened to wander into the convention late Sunday afternoon to discover that they could meet some of their favorite “The Walking Dead” stars. They had absolutely no idea what was going on, and that moment made memories for a lifetime.
The cosplay this year was creative and impressive. The craftsmanship and love that goes into creating these costumes truly define the passion of convention attendees. Two standouts were the gargantuan minotaur that lurked in a corner, and an extremely creepy clown puppet freaked out guests at every turn. “Star Wars,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and “The Walking Dead” were also well represented this year.
Colorado Springs Comic Con put on a family-friendly event that encouraged fans of all ages. These kids are being raised in the world of geeky goodness. One family of five came all the way from Estes Park, CO. to celebrate their passion together for “The Walking Dead” and “Star Wars.” What is it that they say about a family that cosplays together?
