In 2004 Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and Aaron Goodwin filmed an independent film titled “Ghost Adventures.” 4ReeL Productions produced the film and it debuted on SciFi July 25, 2017. The film was a success and the series debuted on October 17, 2008.
As of today, there have been 213 episodes and 47 specials. Including LIVE episodes on Halloween and “Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks.” Thursday at 9pm/8c, Travel Channel will return with new episodes.
To prepare for the return I will revisit some important and pivotal moments in the history of the show.
1 – Ghost Adventures Documentary
This is the film that started it all. I still remember watching this with my mom and being terrified at the end. The apparition caught on camera and, of course, the brick and plywood flying and moving around is one of my most intense memories. I remember shaking from fear and excitement. I was amazed and to this day I still have no explanation for it. Aaron Goodwin even quit the team for a while as a result of his experiences during this filming. This documentary definitely laid the foundations for the series.
2 – Zak Returns to Silver Queen Hotel and apologizes to the spirit of Lynette in room 11.
I have been watching this series since that original documentary and I have seen so much evidence come out through the investigations. I have also seen the crew grow and learn from their past. Zak has learned a lot in the past 16 years and this moment was an important moment in Ghost Adventures history.
3 – Nick Groff leaves the Ghost Adventures Crew
Nick had been a part of the main team since the beginning of the series. He was part of many serious moments in the show, including him being taken over by an evil entity at the Moon River Brewing Company. His leaving really changed the dynamic of the show. I recall being very sad he was no longer a part of the team. However, I think his leaving forced the rest of the crew to reevaluate and allowed them to regroup and come back stronger than ever.
4 – Goatman’s Bridge. Season 13, Episode 13
This episode really delved into new aspects of the paranormal. This episode saw Jay Wasley delve into ritualistic practice to try to contact the Goatman. This was also the last episode Ashley, Wasley’s wife at the time, was a part of. Her experience filming this episode proved to be too much for her to continue working with the show. This episode was really the first one I can recall the crew performing a full ritual themselves. In the past, they have been a part of others doing them, but this was the first the performed such rituals themselves.
5 – The Washoe Club: The Final Chapter
This episode was emotional. It saw the return of the GAC to Virginia City, Nevada. The site of their original documentary and the place they have gathered some of their most intense evidence, including the class A EVP “Nick, Zak, coming… they’re scaring me.”
This was also the site that was highly important to paranormal investigators Mark and Debbie Constantino. The couple were renowned investigators that specialized in EVP analysis, and also very close friends with Zak, Aaron, and Billy. The couple died in 2015. The Final Chapter saw some incredible evidence from Debbie with her voice coming through on EVP. Zak and Billy both confirmed that it was her voice. Earlier this year in “Ghost Adventures: Screaming Room” episode reviewing this, Billy Tolley revealed this location was what made him a believer and was the catalyst for him joining Ghost Adventures.
These are my top five moments that I think shaped the show and had an effect on the current seasons and how the show operates. Be sure to tune in to Travel Channel Thursday night and follow the new episodes to continue being a part of the Ghost Adventures journey.
