“Jay and Silent Bob” are one of the most iconic duos in nerdom. Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith met in grade school but did not form a friendship right away. Their relationship started taking shape when Jay started to help Kevin at the local Quick Stop store with opening the store and putting together newspapers every Sunday.
I got the chance to see Jason perform stand up Feb. 21, 2020 at the Helium Comedy Club in Buffalo, NY and meet him afterward. I was not disappointed. The set itself was definitely raunchy, had a lot of sexual content and language, and funny. Anyone who knows me knows that I am usually not one for this type of humor, yet I am a really big fan of all the “Jay and Silent Bob” movies. This live show was essentially experiencing a live version of one of the movies. And I laughed….a lot.
Mewes is also a very genuine person who has a huge love for his wife and daughter. When I spoke to him I chose to talk about Blippy, the children’s YouTube personality, because I could connect to him on that level and I felt comfortable and relaxed with him. He is definitely easy to relate to in spite of the raunchy nature of his comedy.
This was definitely a night I won’t soon forget. I had thoroughly enjoyed myself and I haven’t laughed that much in a long time.
Mewes also confirmed that “Clerks 3” is a go and they hope to be filming by end of 2020 after the filming fell through a few years back. He also said they are hopeful for “Mallrats 2” to be filmed after that. Stay tuned! Until then…..
