Horror fans relished the excitement at the very first Colorado Festival of Horror. The event took place this past weekend Sept. 10-12,2021 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton, Denver Central Park. The event started Friday evening and closed out Sunday with well-organized fun at every corner. The hotel’s atrium was filled with smiles as friends caught up after a long pandemic convention drought. Outside the doors were horrifically decked out hearses and even a Ghostbuster car in all its glory. The hallways were filled with incredible cosplay from Michael Myers, Pinheads, and more. The passion and love that went into making these costumes were truly inspiring.
Fans got the chance to meet some of these guests up close and personal. Some cool horror celebs such as Brinke Stevens, Brian Bonsall, Zach Howard, Xander Smith, Ed and Marsha Edmunds, Bryan Bonner, Christopher Mihm, Jimmy Combs, Jimmy Lee Combs, Joe Oliver, Jolyon Yates, Colleen Cole, Victoria Price (virtually), Laurene Landon. Even The Enigma stopped by to explore and hang out with his fans.
Plenty of creepy and creative merch took over the Death Dealers Room, a Ghouls Gathering Place took over the hotel atrium, Monster Main Events, a video room called The Video Dead, and panel rooms and workshops called Dracula’s Den. There was a bar and small restaurant with horrific-themed drinks and food. The costume contest was fun and a bloodied-up Glenda the Good Witch took first prize.

The Saturday night highlight was the Drawn in Blood, Draw Off hosted by amazing artist Daniel Crosier. Participants came up to show off their inking talents within a 3-minute time frame. Some of these talents contributed to the Colorado Festival of Horror Coloring Book! The atrium was filled with amazement, smiles, and laughter watching these super-talented people.

The love and passion that went into creating the cosplay this past weekend demonstrated their love for horror. It is a close-knit group of fans that feel like a family.Â
There was trivia, drawing monsters workshops for the kiddoes, and plenty of intriguing panel discussions.
Makeup effects and a Horror Burlesque where cosplay designer Grant Scovel talked about the types of materials used.
Of course, the “Death Dealer’s Room” was bursting with creativity. Here attendees had the chance to meet some of these amazing artists and bring home unique items. Some artists like Gerard Schott was painting while chatting with his fans. Colleen Coe brought her best Hellraiser to the party. Alien Donut Films had plenty to share. Strolling through the vendor area was the hot place to be throughout the weekend.
Until next year, horror fans! No doubt the crew at the Colorado Festival of Horror is already cooking up some ghoulish greatness!
