Marvel’s “Black Panther” (2018) lost its main star tragically this summer when Chadwick Boseman, “King T-Challa,” died at the young age of 43, after a long battle with colon cancer. A powerful and irreplaceable character, fans of this movie wondered if a sequel would ever happen.
For those who have been anticipating and questioning how a sequel could come about after the death of the actor who played the main character, announcements have been made. The release date has been set and “Black Panther 2” will be in theaters on the big silver screen on July 8th, 2022.
King T’Challa, however, will not be recast. In honor of the memory of Chadwick Boseman, his role will remain his, and his alone. Marvel boss Kevin Feige said that Boseman’s performance “was iconic and transcends any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past. And it is for that reason we will not recast the character.” The focus for “Black Panther 2” will instead be on “the world of Wakanda and all the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.”
Wakanda forever!
