Where were all the Colorado nerds the past three days? As always this time of year they were soaking up all of their favorites at StarFest Denver this past weekend Apr. 26-28, 2019 at the Marriott DTC.

Babies had eyes wide open, kids couldn’t get enough of the activities, and adults from their ’20s to ’80s squeezed in as much joy as humanly possible. The cosplay was amazing, the panels were fun and informative, and the celebrity stars were shining.

“Star Trek” and “Boston Legal” icon William Shatner, “Trek’s Nichelle Nichols made her farewell convention appearance. “The Orville’s Peter Macon, “Farscape” and “Stargate SG1’s Ben Browder, “Dawn of the Dead” famed Ken Foree, and so many other speakers from filmmakers to scientists. Fans had hands filled with treasures looking to be autographed by these favorites, and people smiled for the camera getting to stand next to these performers they had only seen on TV and in films.

The reason why StarFest is one of the favorite conventions is simple: Family. No other convention has the feeling of friends and family that this event has, and year after year it is more like a reunion than a convention. This collection of festivals offers an exciting variety of programming such as ComicFest, HorrorFest, KlingonFest, ArtFest and the list of “fests” and activities was long. It is three days of non-stop action.

The dealer’s room is always busy from open to close with shoppers looking for those hard to find items. Experts in the field have the opportunity to knowledge and passion with eager con attendees. Kids played giant Jenga and created unique art. Boardgamers tested their skills, there was even a Quidditch championship!

Saturday night rocked the Marriott with StarFest’s annual Federation Ball. A DJ played favorites, giant dinosaurs did the Time Warp, and a stormtrooper danced with his date.

Sunday morning brought eager attendees counting down the big day to meet Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. His panel was standing room only and he shared stories with the audience, answered some questions, and let’s face it; this 88-year young actor, writer, a producer is as busy as he ever was.

There are only 364 days left until StarFest 2020 and the time will go by fast. Star planning that cosplay now. Stay tuned for our interviews with Ben Browder, Ken Foree and more!
