While at AwesomeCon 2019, NerdAlertNews got a chance to speak with Chris Sarandon. Sarandon is known for his extensive resume in the nerd convention genre for such projects as the voice of Jack Skellington in “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” his work in “The Princess Bride,” “Fright Night,” “Charmed” and many more. Sarandon was very gracious with his time and had lovely things to say about his fans at AwesomeCon.
Jadeen Mercado: How’s your experience been so far at AwesomeCon?
Chris Sarandon: Great so far; just been here for a few hours.
JM: I personally love your work from your episode in “Charmed” and ‘The Necromancer.’ A lot of people know you as Jack Skellington. What’s your experience like at these conventions?
CS: I enjoy them immensely because it gives me a chance to interact with fans. When you’re working in movies and television, I work in the theater too, you don’t get a chance to really get a sense of what the interaction is between you and your audience. You get a chance to do that at these conventions which is the main reason why I love them.
JM: You obviously are at a fan/nerd convention, do you feel like based on your work that you are really welcomed into this community?
CS: Oh yeah. Of course.
JM: Do you notice any differences from a fan on the street versus at a convention?
CS: I think people who come to the conventions are much more hardcore and serious of these various movies and TV shows. They’re very immersed in them–they watch them over and over and over again. I mean it’s not to say the people on the street aren’t.
JM: Can you tell me if you have any upcoming projects?
CS: I’m writing a book about my experiences, my life, my parents, how my parents came to this country. Also working in movies and stories about some of the things that I’ve been involved in. That’s to look forward to.
Big thanks to Chris Sarandon for his time, and stay on the lookout for his upcoming book.
