The Colorado Festival of Horror celebrated its five year anniversary this year, and Nerd Alert News has never missed it! This year’s theme was Monsters and there was no shortage of them. The cosplay seriously stepped it up this past weekend Sep. 12-14 at the Marriott Denver South in Lone Tree, CO. Along with the amazing cosplay creativity, there were celebrities, panels, photo ops and autographs, and a killer dealer’s room named the Death Dealer’s Room. It had horrifically good stuff from artwork to unique t-shirts and everything in between. There was an indie film festival, a tattoo competition, movie screenings, and new friendships made. For those who have missed that beloved StarFest convention, COFOH is your new home!

Celebrities were on hand to meet their fans in panels and up close and personal photo ops and autographs. The actors shared what it was like to work with James Cameron and how he gave them room to personalize their roles. They got creative with their armor, and they were able to improvise under Cameron’s vision. Everything on set was realistic and some actually felt fear from the Queen Xenomorph.

Gore Galore Costume Extravaganza

One of the highlights of the weekend was, of course, the Gore Galore Costume Extravaganza. The fifth year gave the audience some of the most incredible and creative costumes that looked like they came right out of Hollywood. One of the judges included award-winning makeup effect and creature designer, Dean Gates.

Monstrosity Movie Room where fans soaked up some bloody fun films including a film festival and horror awards. And, this editor’s favorite of the weekend, GodzillaFest! Lynelle Phillips hosted all the fun. With a big turnout, the audience celebrated one of Godzilla’s most famous foes, King Ghidorah by watching “Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster” from 1964 and the “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Ramen and chopsticks were given out as well as a raffle with special prizes.
