Don McLeod is busy!

The veteran actor has over a decade of work in film and TV with roles in hot series like “Project Blue Book,” “Tomorrow People,” “Arrow,” “Frequency,” “Travelers,” and “When Calls the Heart.” Most recently, Don has appeared in NBC’s “The Irrational.” Before becoming an actor Don had an impressive career as a recording artist, writer, and record producer. As a producer and award-winning songwriter, he has worked with many amazing writers and artists and has had his music appear in hugely popular shows such as “Highlander”, “Heartland” and “So You Think You Can Dance?”. In 2023 Don released an album titled “A Journey Through The Story” which was produced by Jim Riley (Rascal Flatts).

McLeod has several fun projects in the works including a romcom and a comedy/drama/action. His production company Stone Rabbits Productions has written 24 film and TV scripts/concepts. This talented actor, writer, musician, and producer has some amazing stories to share including how he found his love for acting and music. Get to know Don McLeod and share his joy in creating entertainment.

Colleen Bement: Thank you very much for taking the time out. Let’s chat about your upcoming projects “Christmas Cab Ride” and “Fox and Hunter.” Has production started on these? What are you allowed to tell us about these projects?

Don McLeod: My Pleasure, thank you. Production has not started yet but we hope both will start mid 2024. Both projects were written by Jesse Hutch and myself. Can’t say much about “Christmas Cab Ride” yet other than it is a really fun romantic comedy.

But …

“Fox and Hunter” is a Comedy Drama with Action. It leans on quick-witted dialogue, and grounded character humor while adding just enough heart and edge to make it familiar and exciting. We follow the daily life of high energy BLAKE FOX (Jesse Hutch), and his veteran partner JOHN HUNTER (Don McLeod), along with a full undercover unit as they are repeatedly detoured from their work by discussions, explosions, foot races, car chases, personal issues and evidence.

CB: Can we chat “Project Blue Book?” Huge fan, here. Two questions:

  1. Tell us about your experience on the set.

DM: Being on set for “Project Blue Book” was awesome! Aiden Gillen, Michael Malarkey, and Neal McDonough were really great to work with as were the whole cast and crew. Great people and a fun script.

  1. Let’s get a bit personal…What’s your stance on UFOs? I’ve been very skeptical, but lately, I’ve grown far more open-minded.

DM: LOL. I can’t say I’ve ever seen one but God has created some amazing things here on Earth so, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did exist.

Passion for Music

CB: Music is another one of my favorite things in life. You’ve had your music appear in popular shows such as “Highlander”, “Heartland” and “So You Think You Can Dance?”. When did you discover your love and talent for music?

DM: Ya, music has the power to move people in a way that not a lot of things can. I discovered my love for music at an early age. That “talent” I think I’m still discovering it. I can say that I really dove into music after a bad car accident where I was left for dead and had to relearn how to walk. I taught myself how to play guitar during that time and wrote a lot of songs to express how I felt.

CB: More on your music, congrats on your album “A Journey Through The Story” which was produced by Rascal Flatts’ Jim Riley. Tell us about that journey.

DM: Thank you! It was such an amazing journey to record this album. I was so broke at the time and not looking to record anything. I reached out to Jim because a friend was looking for players for a project. Jim and I got to talking and he asked what I had been writing. Long story short I ended up sending him some songs and he told me we had to record them. I didn’t have the money but I prayed about it and I felt like God was telling me to say yes to Jimi and He (God) would provide. So, I did. A couple weeks later I did an interview with Brad Wozny and at the end, he surprised me with a ‘GiveSendGo’ campaign that he started to get me to Nashville to record. As I drove across the country the money came in as it was needed. I got to Nashville and recorded what you can now hear on any major streaming service.

How Don Started Acting

CB: Let’s get to know you a little better. Tell us the story of how you found your way into acting. You have such an amazing career going!

DM: My acting career started when I was asked to put on a songwriting contest for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. They brought in an actor Graham Wardle (CBC’s Heartland) as a guest judge. We got along right away. He invited me to hang out on set, where I was challenged and encouraged to try acting… and though I wasn’t really interested in it at the time… once I tried it, I was in! Everything snowballed from there.

New Projects in the Works

CB: Do you happen to have any other projects in the works that I should include?

DM: Jesse Hutch and I currently have over 24 concepts and scripts that we are actively pitching. RomCom’s, Action/Adventure, Unscripted, Animated, SciFi, and a Musical that I am really excited about. BUT can’t get into specifics about those just yet.

CB: I read that you enjoy going on prayer walks. I recently went on a meditation retreat and learned how to meditate. It’s pretty difficult! Do you have any advice for those of us who are learning these self-improvement skills?

DM: Yes, I actually have a series called ‘Prayer Walks’ on Stubstack

My advice is to go somewhere that you feel calm. I like being in nature. And just be you. God already knows what you’re thinking. Share freely and honestly with Him. Sometimes I talk until I have nothing left in me to say, and then I sit in silence to listen to what God impresses on my heart. If you’re searching for answers about something, speak what’s on your heart and then wait for peace before you make a decision.
