Have you seen the trailer?
Obi-Wan himself, Ewan McGregor is back on the small screen in the limited series “A Gentleman in Moscow.” The trailer looks very entertaining, and I, for one, cannot wait to watch McGregor transform himself into the character of Count Alexander Rostov. The story will unfold over eight episodes of drama, humor, and fabulous set dec and costumes.
Based on Amor Towles’ Best-Selling Novel, this adaptation follows the Count through his adventures of being a prisoner of the Russian Revolution’s aftermath. There are no bars on the windows, yet his freedom is taken from him. Certainly better than being executed, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love. Just a few years after the pandemic kept people in their homes for months, this might feel a bit surreal.
Alongside McGregor, the series can boast some talented stars such as Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ahsoka, Kate, Birds of Prey) as the glamorous, self-made film actress Anna Urbanova; Alexa Goodall (The Devil’s Hour, Lockwood and Co) as the Count’s unlikely young friend Nina; Johnny Harris (Without Sin, This is England ’86) as a conflicted secret police officer Osip; and Fehinti Balogun (Dune, I May Destroy You) as Mishka, the Count’s best friend from university. Additional cast includes Leah Harvey (Foundation), Paul Ready (Motherland, The Terror), John Heffernan (Becoming Elizabeth, The Pursuit of Love), Lyès Salem (Coupez, Abou Leila), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Lamb, The Witcher), Dee Ahluwalia (Consent, Sex Education), Anastasia Hille (I Hate Suzie Too), Daniel Cerqueira (Judy), Leah Balmforth (Silent Roar), Billie Gadsdon (One Day) and Beau Gadsdon (The Crown).
“A Gentleman in Moscow ” will premiere Friday, March 29, 2024, on streaming and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan before its on-air debut on Paramount+ with Showtime on Sunday, March 31 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The series will premiere on Paramount+ in Canada, the UK, and Australia on March 29 and on Paramount+ in Latin America, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and South Korea on May 17.
