Film nominations were announced for the 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards.  Series nominations were announced previously,  late last month. Winners will be announced on Sunday, March 7th from 7 pm ET to 10 pm ET on the CW. The hybrid format will combine in-person presenters with nominees appearing remotely from all over the world.  Netflix dominates in film nominations as well as in the previously announced television series nominations, with an overall total of 72 nominations.

The Netflix film “Mank” received the most nominations.  “Mank” reevaluates 1930’s Hollywood through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, played by Oldman, as he worked to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane (1941).  The twelve nominations include Best Picture, Best Actor for Gary Oldman, Best Supporting Actress for Amanda Seyfried, and Best Director for David Fincher.  “Minari” follows close behind with 10 nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor for Steven Yeun.  Yeun is best known for his role as Glen in “The Walking Dead.”  “Minari” tells the story of a Korean family that starts a farm in 1980s Arkansas.

Other notable nominations include Actress Olivia Coleman as the only artist nominated for both film and television this year.  She is the Best Supporting Actress nominee for the film “The Father.”  She was also nominated for her leading role in the popular Netflix series, “The Crown.” Chadwick Boseman received multiple nominations for his performances in “Da 5 Bloods,” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” both on Netflix.  His nominations are bittersweet as we still come to terms with his tragic death last August.

The 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards will be hosted by Taye Diggs for the third consecutive year.  Diggs has had an impressive and prolific career in film and stage and has recently collaborated on a number of children’s books.  The 50-year-old actor is best known for his stage roles in “Rent” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” and his TV and film roles in “Private Practice,” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.” Diggs’ other television credits include “Empire,” “Murder In The First,”  “Rosewood,” “The Good Wife,” “Daybreak,” “Kevin Hill”, “Ally McBeal,” “Will & Grace,” “Ed,” “The West Wing,” “New York Undercover” and “Law and Order.”  During his career, he has been the recipient of several NAACP Image Award nominations, and won the esteemed award for  Supporting Actor in “Private Practice.”  His fourth children’s book collaboration, titled “My Friend,” will be released later this year.

Critics Choice Awards are given annually to honor achievement in film and television and are considered the best predictor of Academy Award nominations.  The full list of nominations can be found here.  Follow the 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards on Twitter and Instagram at @CriticsChoice.
