The Last of Us” is back for a second season and it’s going to be even bigger than the first. The new storyline and added cast are all going to come together to stun us every Sunday. One of the cast had a fun part and chatted with Nerd Alert News about his time on the set. Finn McCager had a part in the first episode of this season as Caleb. This Stunt Performer/Actor/Writer/Director shared some insights into the show as well as other projects that he has in the works.

McCager is known for his indie film “In the Pines” which he co-wrote, co-directed, and both played one of the lead roles in the film. He brought his film to Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2021 and it is also part of Season 5 of the “Discover Indie Film TV” series on Amazon Prime Video. He’s also had parts in “The Boys,” “Violent Night,” and more acting and stunt roles. Get to know Finn McCager

Colleen Bement: Congrats on the role in season 2 of “The Last of Us.” Tell us about Caleb. What can you share about your experience on the set of filming “The Last of Us?” Was it fun? Was it Difficult? What will fans think about your character?

Finn McCager: Filming was one of the best experiences I’ve had. It was one of the best stunt teams I’ve ever worked with, and every department clearly cared deeply about this story. Not to mention being directed by Craig Mazin was surreal. My only wish is that I would’ve gotten to meet Neil Druckmann! And, fans are going to like this character.

CB: By chance, are you a fan of the original game?

FMC: The original game is one of my favourite stories of all time, and I was so close to it that I hesitated for a long time to play Part 2 of the game, but I actually finished playing it right before hearing about this role. So that was mind-blowing. Part 2 may even have surpassed the first.

CB: Your short film “In The Pines” got a lot of attention. What was it like to write, direct, and act in a film? I can just imagine how challenging an endeavor that was.

FMC: Making “In the Pines” with that team really developed me as a filmmaker, since it was my first time filling all three roles. I just wrote, directed, and acted in another film, titled “If You Give A Chad A Spot” and was able to rely on everything I learned from my previous work to make something more advanced. It’s being submitted to festivals now. It will make you reconsider what a “spot” means.

FMC: The film is part of Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

CB: Walk us through how you got started in show business. Was there a movie or TV show that inspired you?

FMC: Watching “Pulp Fiction” while 10 years old with my grandma in her basement, I saw Butch realize he wanted that samurai sword and I realized I wanted to make movies.

CB: You’ve had quite a few gigs as a Stunt Performer in some amazing shows like “The Boys,” “Reacher,” and others. Did you start out as a Stunt Performer and venture into acting, or have you always done both?

FMC: I grew up shooting my own movies with a camcorder and acting in them, then at University of Winnipeg I competed in freestyle wrestling while completing my degree in the Department of Theatre and Film. My first day on set was as a stunt performer on the last day of “Nobody” which was filming in Winnipeg.

CB: Final question: What do you do when you wake up and you’re just not feeling it that day? How do you pump yourself up? I love and always learn from the responses that I receive on this one!

FMC: When I’m not feeling it and need a little gumption boost I read books like “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” by Robert Pirsig, “Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned: The Myth of the Objective” by Kenneth Stanley and Joel Lehman, and “The Lord of the Rings.” Most importantly, my wife Rachel always motivates me.

CB: Thanks again for the chat, and, we’re all excited for season 2 of “The Last of Us,” and best of luck with “In The Pines.”
