Gigi Gustin is an up and coming actress who is making a name for herself in the world of on-screen entertainment. She has an impressive resume of horror roles such as ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Blood’ and her new film ‘The Retaliators’ (premiering in 2021). You can also catch her on the Amazon Prime original ‘Bulge Bracket.’ With a lifetime movie coming out in February and various other projects on her horizon, Ms. Gustin has definitely been a busy woman. Recently, Nerd Alert News was lucky enough to spend some time getting to know this talented woman, and it is clear she has a bright and successful future ahead of her!
TiShea Wilson: Hi, Gigi! Thank you so much for chatting with us today! We can’t wait to get to know you a little bit! Let’s jump right into it! Can you tell us a little bit about your role in the Amazon Prime series, ‘Bulge Bracket?’
Gigi Gustin: I play Rosie Rutherford. She’s the office hottie who comes into play half way through the season and her presence really shakes things up! She wants to do well, but ultimately uses her looks to get her by when all else fails, as she is extremely under qualified for her job, which she only got because of her relationship with her uncle.
TW: You’ve held the position of producer on a few projects, can you tell us a little bit about those?
GG: Sure! I was cast in ‘The Springfield Three,’ which I became very passionate about and eventually took on a producer role as well. The film just had it’s television premiere on Shorts TV. I also helped produce ‘Miniature,’ which premiered at Screamfest earlier this year, where I act alongside Jenna Kanell (‘Terrifier, Bye Bye Man’). I am set to produce two features in 2021, although acting is my main thing. I really only do it for the experience and education that can only ultimately help me when I am in front of the camera.
TW: There are several roles in the horror genre on your resume, was that a genre you wanted to be in or was it an opportunity you couldn’t pass up?
GG: I like to say I didn’t choose horror, horror chose me. I definitely love horror/thrillers, but I am happy to have been able to dabble in some more drama and comedy this past year. I grew up watching scary movies, and often pictured myself in them. So, it’s no wonder I somehow attract a lot of those “scream queen” roles, and happen to be pretty good at them!
TW: What’s your favorite project that you’ve worked on?
GG: Ohhhhh this ones tough! I am going to go with ‘The Springfield Three.’ It was my first film project I had booked since moving to LA, and I just learned so much. I continue to work with those same people often on other projects. A close second would be ‘The Retaliators,’ directed by the same person who did ‘The Springfield Three,’ Samuel Gonzalez jr. I got to work alongside Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach and get really gritty!
TW: What drew you to a career in the entertainment industry in the first place? What has that journey been like for you?
GG: I actually grew up singing, dancing, and acting on stage at the early age of five, which is when I booked my first national commercial as well. I fell out of it as a child due to family matters, but my love for movies inspired me to get back into it when I was around 18. I signed to a small talent agency in New Jersey, and was able to book small gigs shooting in New York or Philly until I landed myself a spot as a competitor on the FOX competition show ‘American Grit.’ I eventually won the grand prize of $250,000 that ultimately gave me the means to move to Los Angeles to make my acting dream a reality! It has been a tornado of an experience, but luckily, I pretty much thrive in chaos!
TW: Are there any roles or projects you are excited about starting or continuing coming up in the near future?
GG: I have a lifetime movie coming out in February called ‘Killer Advice.’ I am very excited for it’s premiere! Also, be on the lookout for ‘The Retaliators,’ coming to theaters in 2021.
TW: Any advice or tips for someone trying to get their foot in the door of the entertainment industry?
GG: It takes time. Have patience and enjoy the process. There really isn’t a finish line. You’re always striving to be better!
