Last week, we reported on the upcoming book launch for Trixie Mattel (Brian Firkus) and Katya Zamolodchikova‘s (Brian McCook) “Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Modern Womanhood.” Which was released yesterday! You can visit the book page in the link above to order yours!
We were able to attend one of the virtual live events to celebrate the launch of the book last Thursday, and last night we were able to join a second event. Both events were chaotic and fun! The two authors and Drag Race stars have amazing chemistry and play off of each other seamlessly.
The event was like watching an episode of their hit show “unNNHHhh” live. The event wasn’t too formal, making for a relaxed atmosphere and a really fun hour of celebration.
The pair said that the book is meant to be a satirical self-help book. They didn’t want it to be too serious, as that wouldn’t fit their style or personalities. The two give advice on “unNNNhh”—mostly unintentionally—and the book contains stories from each of their pasts in hopes they can teach the “modern woman” a lesson or two. Mattel said that using satire is a good way to “address truths in coded language.” So tough topics can be addressed without being too upfront about it.
Firkus and McCook are two different types of drag queens and have used their differences to cultivate an iconic partnership. While the two are wonderful on their own, it seems like they provide an effortless balance to each other when they are together. It is great to see their partnership evolve and blossom into what it is now!
