Paramount+ has officially gone where no streaming service has gone before—straight into Bikini Bottom… IN SPACE.
I’m a fan of both “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and “SpongeBob SquarePants,” so believe me when I tell you, this is hilarious. In the latest installment of their Find Your Mountain on Paramount+ campaign, the streaming giant put out a video mashing up the two iconic universes. The new spot stars Spock (Ethan Peck), Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), and Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose-Gooding), joined by the crew of the Patrick Starship Enterprise (SpongeBob SquarePants, Sandy Cheeks, and Mr. Krabs). Because when you’re navigating deep space aboard the Patrick Starship Enterprise, who wouldn’t want a talking sponge, and a squirrel in a dive suit as your co-pilots? It certainly made me shout out “I’M READY’ for the third season of “Strange New Worlds.” Click here for first look photos of this season premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival June 14th.
In addition to this excitement, I’m looking forward to an episode that looks like it will be a “Black Mirror” parody of a parody. According to Screen Rant, an upcoming episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” may be a direct response to a pair of “Black Mirror” episodes on the USS Callister that parodied “Star Trek: The Original Series.” A teaser trailer hints at the crew of Captain Christopher Pike’s (Anson Mount) USS Enterprise with Lieutenants James Kirk (Paul Wesley), Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), and Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) on a low-budget starship set. We will have to wait and see.
