“Vikings” features Andrei Claude in this sixth and final season, and Nerd Alert News caught up with him. The Malta born actor chats about the experience on the History Channel series, and his cool Russian character of Ganbaatar. Also, find out what it was like to play a Khal on “Game of Thrones,” and his latest projects in the works.
Colleen Bement: “Vikings” is wrapping up its incredible series and fans are loving the season so far. Tell us about your experience on the set.
Andrei Claude: This really is an incredible series, and Michael Hirst, who has written every single one of these 89 episodes deserves a tremendous amount of credit. I had such a great time. All the cast, crew and production team were an absolute pleasure to work with, and there was always a very collaborative feeling on set.
CB: Tell us about your character of Ganbaatar.
AC: Ganbaatar is the captain of the Rus Vikings’ army and in a way the right-hand man to Prince Oleg. He’s a very skilled fighter himself and he knows the strategies on a battlefield. He also has quite an odd sense of humor.
CB: You played a “Khal” in “Game of Thrones”. What was it like to be a part of that amazing series?
AC: “Game of Thrones” was a massive production. I remember at the time there were three units shooting simultaneously, and I was working on the one in Belfast. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of this series, and I think it would be quite hard to replicate. The experience itself was fantastic. The Dothraki people had only appeared in the first season, and this was the sixth one. So there was quite a lot of excitement to see them again, and we could all perceive that.
CB: Do you have any projects in the works that you’re allowed to share with us?
AC: I have started work on a new project, however, I’m afraid I cannot disclose any details right now.
CB: I read that you used to be a fitness model. How did you break into acting?
AC: I began working as a fitness model in California, and then a few years later I ended up in New York. Even though I was pursuing modeling jobs, I developed an interest in acting while I was there, and so I started attending classes and workshops. After some time I decided to relocate to London and embark on this journey of becoming an actor. I signed up with an agent and began going on auditions.
