Happy Halloween!

Meet Nic Caruccio AKA the Headless Horseman himself. This actor, writer, and producer grew up on all the horror classics, and getting to play the Headless Horseman was a treat. Along with some exciting new projects in the works, he has been in “Age of Stone and Sky: The Sorcerer Beast,” and “The Hitcher Girl.” Nerd Alert News gets to know Nic and learns of some fun stories from the set of what he called a little haunted family.

The cool Halloween movie is available in some theaters on Video On Demand. It’s directed by Jose Prendes and the score was by the genre legend Harry Manfredini. Watch the trailer and then get to know the Headless Horseman!

Colleen Bement: Just in time for Halloween your “Headless Horseman” movie came out. Congratulations on the role, and can you introduce us to your character of the Headless Horseman?

Nic Caruccio: Thank you so much! I know, it’s perfect timing, right? And definitely something I will be excited for everyone to see. We were all in the Halloween spirit all through filming. I play the character, Brandon. He is Sofia’s love interest in the film. And after she is taken away from him, he makes a desperate deal to get her back. Brandon is the Headless Horseman himself.

CB: Do you have any stories from the set that you can share?

NC: There were so many fun and funny stories from set. One that sticks out for me is when Ethan (Angel) brought his ‘back stretcher exercise wheel’ to set and we all took turns trying it out all failing miserably. Just finding ways to keep ourselves entertained from set. It was so funny. Another thing that I remember is on our last day, we were shooting one of the climatic confrontation scenes of all of our characters. We needed high energy and emotion. And we were all so tired and put everything we had into those scenes. It was the moment after we shot it that we all looked around and told ourselves, “Wow, we actually pulled it off…we worked so hard and we completed the film!” We shot the film in only 6 days, and despite that being such a short amount of time, we all grew really close. Like a little haunted family!

CB: It looks like you’ve got more projects in the works. What can you tell us about them?

NC: Yeah! One is called ‘Circle Bridge’, a film about a deceitful man who is stuck in hell and returns to the land of the living while carrying out the devil’s orders, only to find one of those deals is related to his daughter. I play the character of Archer, an evil and entitled son of a businessman who interferes with the father/daughter being reunited. Another one I have in the works is ‘The Hitcher Girl’, a story about a mysterious girl waking up in the middle of the desert and hitchhikes across America to get to the Ocean, a hidden beach where justice must be served. I play, Bryan, the mysterious girl’s ex-boyfriend and leader of a skinhead gang. Both of these projects were really fun, and I can’t wait for them to come out. I also have other things in the works, can’t really say anything about them now. But I am definitely excited. Also, hopefully, another thing I hope we can all work on is, coming back together and doing “Headless Horseman 2”! That would be a blast, and I would do it in a heartbeat.

CB: Are you a big horror fan?

NC: Absolutely. Growing up my dad made me and my brother sit down and watch all the classics, “Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Friday 13th,” “Halloween,” “Texas Chainsaw,” “American Werewolf in London” etc. Even the classic black and white Dracula, Wolfman, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. I love them all dearly. So it was crazy to be able to work with Kate Hodge, and Billy Butler, both horror film icons!

CB: How do you prepare for a role? How do you get into character?

NC: Preparing for a role is, to me, both easy and extremely tricky. Easy, by being able to connect a part of yourself to your character, and tricky meaning, putting yourself in the character’s situations and life. Obviously, it depends on the role and the project and what is required. For example, Brandon, in the Headless Horseman, I considered like a puppy. In a way, he is just a hopeless romantic. Throwing morals, and codes out the window to be with the one person he cares about most in the world. I’m sure we have all been there!

To get into character, at least what works for me, is to take some time and be alone with it, your script, your lines, your costume, everything. Just talk to yourself in a way. That way you can privately absorb everything and sort of ‘live as the character’ for a brief period. It’s honestly the best part of acting and being able to work on amazing projects like this, you are able to find and play with rich characters and motives. Especially with a genius like our fabulous director, Jose. He allowed us freedom to create and play with things that I have never experienced before. You’re a madman, Jose!
