Actor and writer Bruce Boxleitner charmed his audience at the Denver Comic Con. Best known for his leading roles in Tron, Tron: Legacy,Babylon 5, and Scarecrow and Mrs. King, his autograph line was constantly filled with eager fans. Although time was short, he graciously took out a few minutes to talk about his latest projects.
Colleen Bement: What project are you currently working on?
Bruce Boxleitner: I’m very fortunate to have such a good fan following 30 years later after Tron. I’ve been playing Tron in every incarnation that has come out. It’s a big part of my life. Tron Uprising is on DVD right now and that’s what I’m working on.
I’ve got two things going online shortly. I’ve got a pilot that I’m in called Smokewood, as opposed to Deadwood. Smokewood is a half hour comedy. We’ve already shot the pilot. Things are changing in Hollywood and they’re looking for something a little out of the box. Especially in a half hour format.
A project of my own that I’m working on is a series that I’m coming out with to try to bring to the web something like Babylon 5 was. It’s a Steampunk alternate universe series because it’s about time it was brought out in to the mainstream. It’s called Bruce Boxleitner’s Lantern City. We just need a place to go with. Especially Steampunk, Hollywood really doesn’t know what it is yet. They have to see it and we’ve got a very exciting and intriguing storyline. It’s in a saga type format and it’s in an alternate steampunk universe. Not dabbled with like Sherlock Holmes, but done straight on. Otherwise, I’m just an actor looking for a job. The conventions are a good way to get out and see the fans.
CB: Do you keep in touch with any of cast members of Scarecrow and Mrs. King?
BB: Scarecrow came about a year after Tron came out. Martha Smith is about the only one I keep in touch with. I kept in touch with Mel, and used to keep up with Beverly Garland until she passed. There was actually has a hotel named after her. She was such a trip. She was a great lady. As far as Katie, I talked to her on the phone a few years ago, but I haven’t seen her in 25 years. It was a fun show.
