Kurt Yue is currently in 4 shows and has appeared in all three Marvel Universes.
Yue is known for having appeared in all three Marvel Universes including “Black Widow” and “Venom.” Fans also recognize him from his roles in “Cobra Kai,” “Will Trent,” “Sweet Magnolias,” “Reasonable Doubt,” and so much more. Have you seen his popular YouTube channel Acting Career Center? Kurt’s channel started out as a side project and it has grown into a business. He shares his experiences and tips with other creatives and it is definitely worth a watch!
Originally from Beijing, China, this talent went from being a computer programmer to enjoying a successful acting career. Kurt worked his 9-5’s and ventured into some acting classes after work. He found he had a passion for it and the rest is history. He has some great stories to share and Nerd Alert News was lucky to catch up with him.
Colleen Bement: I read that you’re one of the few actors who actually has credited speaking roles in all three of the Marvel Universes. That’s awesome and two questions for you:
Which role was the most fun to play?
Kurt Yue: I don’t know if it was the most fun to play, but my role in “Black Widow” was certainly one of the best experiences I’ve had in the industry. The production flew six actors, including myself, from Atlanta to London for two and a half weeks to work on the movie. I had never been to London before, so that was an amazing trip. I got to spend that time with five other actors, who have become really good friends of mine to this day.
Who is your favorite Marvel character?
KY: I don’t think I have an all-time favorite, but there are definitely a handful of characters I’ve really liked since I was a kid. Wolverine, Blade, and The Thing from Fantastic Four are the ones that come to mind right away.
CB: “Cobra Kai” is such a great show. Would you happen to have any stories from the set?
KY: Oh, I agree, “Cobra Kai” is an incredible show. It has been such an amazing experience working on it. The most memorable thing from working on that set is the enthusiasm of the creators, Josh Heald, Hayden Schlossberg, and Jon Hurwitz. They create such a positive work environment, and it’s clear that beyond anything, they are fans of “The Karate Kid” franchise. My very first day on that show was back in Season 1, and it was a scene with Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, played by William Zabka and Ralph Macchio. It was pretty surreal sitting in that room and watching these two icons of my childhood walk in and then end up working on a scene together!
CB: Do you have a project in the works that you’re allowed to tell us about?
KY: I got a chance to work on a cool horror movie last year that is hopefully coming out this year. Unfortunately, that’s probably as much as I can say about it, haha. I’m also really excited that “Will Trent” was picked up for a third season. Working on that show has been an absolute blast, and I can’t wait to get back on set and work with that cast and crew again.
CB: How did you go from being a computer programmer to a successful actor? Where in all that history did you catch the acting bug, and what made you give it your all?
KY: The transition was quite unexpected. I was working in software development for almost a decade, and it was during that time I started feeling the need for something more creative. I began taking acting classes as a hobby to break the monotony of my corporate job. Over time, that hobby turned into a passion. I started auditioning for local commercials and small projects, and as I got more roles, my interest in acting grew. Eventually, I decided to take the plunge and focus on acting full-time. Moving to Atlanta, where the film industry was booming, really sparked the beginning of my film and television career.
CB: Please tell us about your incredibly successful YouTube channel. How did you find that passion?
KY: My YouTube channel is called Acting Career Center. I started it back in 2015 but it really took off during the pandemic when we all had more time at home. Initially, it was just a fun side project, but as I started posting more consistently, it gained traction and grew into a viable business. The channel became a way for me to connect with a broader audience and share my experiences and tips with other actors and creatives. Balancing the channel with my acting career has been challenging, but the ability to reach and inspire others has been incredibly rewarding.
CB: Was there a particular person on set that you had a lot of fun working with? I’ve read that you’ve had the opportunity to work with Oscar winners.
KY: To be honest, the most memorable person was probably Kenny G. I got a chance to work with him on the set of “Bad Moms Christmas” a few years ago. He was such a genuinely nice guy, and his enthusiasm on set was incredible. I remember the movie script had some jokes that poked fun at him, and he was totally in on the joke, even suggesting other jokes to use in the movie. He was such a good sport about it and genuinely just happy to be there and happy to be working with everyone.
CB: I love your Instagram. Where do you get the inspiration and creativity to make it fun?
KY: Haha, I actually don’t post very much on Instagram. When I do, it’s usually photos of my dog or places I’m traveling to. Maybe I should post more!
