What is your favorite fan convention?

If you’re a fan of TV shows, movies, comic books, and more, chances are that you have attended one of the many fan conventions in the United States. Some host over 100,000 people while others host a few thousand. Large or small, these events bring together fans of all kinds of genres to cosplay, meet celebrities, play games, and spend time with like-minded people. These cons are for all ages. What a great way to spend a few days connecting with fellow fans while getting a sneak peek at upcoming movies or catching up on your favorite TV series.

With so many fan conventions held each year across the country, it can be hard to know which ones are the most popular. We made a short list of some of the most popular fan conventions in the United States.

First on our list is San Diego Comic-Con International or what many fans call the Holy Grail of comic cons, which is held every year in San Diego. Since 1970 this event is considered by many to be the ultimate destination for fans of all kinds of media. Whether you’re into comics, movies, video games, or something else entirely, there’s something for everyone at San Diego Comic-Con. All the big celebs make their appearances at this event and tickets are nearly impossible to buy.

Fan Expo Denver

Pop culture fans know that Fan Expo Denver is always a great time. With so many amazing panels and activities, it must take meticulous planning to create that ideal schedule. Attendees get creative to squeeze in superstars and meet jaw-dropping comic icons. The main events room is always a highlight, and of course, the Merchant Mesa was packed full of treasures. There is something for everybody as wandering eyes, smiles, and wallets stroll the isles looking for that something special they could not get anywhere else.

Next up is New York Comic Con. As its name implies, this convention takes place every October in New York City and draws an even bigger crowd than San Diego Comic-Con each year. From screenings to signings and celebrity panels to exclusive merchandise, there is always plenty to do at NYCC is one of the biggest comic conventions in America. The Javits Center in New York City hosts this fan-favorite event every year.

Dragon Con is another popular event held annually in Atlanta since 1987. This massive fan gathering brings together fans from around the world for five days packed with celebrity panels and photo ops, autograph sessions, live entertainment acts, costume contests, and more. Dragon Con also has its own mobile app that helps attendees plan out their experience before they even arrive.

Colorado Festival of Horror

The Colorado Festival of Horror celebrated its 2nd annual event last September with the theme “Funhouse.” Decorated to look like a musty, haunted funhouse it brings the flavor of a freaky backwoods carnival. There are usually hearses parked out front, and the convention floor is teeming with people dressed in horror cosplay. Horror fans gather to celebrate their favorite genre. Guests, as well as exhibitioners, come from across the country to participate.

The last entry on our list is Wonderconwhich has been held annually in Anaheim, CA since 1987. Fans flock to this smaller but still incredibly popular con for some truly unique experiences like anime dubbing sessions and exclusive film screenings with big names from the industry in attendance.
