I’m not sure I envision Jennifer Lopez in space, but this new action movie sets her character on a far-off planet.

Lopez will be launching into space to try to capture a robot in the new film “Atlas.” I am having a hard time picturing the actress saving the world from outer space, but I’m looking forward to being proved wrong. She plays a government analyst who has been hurled to a distant world to try to defeat her oldest enemy. In order to protect life here on Earth, Atlas Shepherd (Lopez) plays a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence. She joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it. Backed by an all-star cast including Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and more, this futuristic story looks pretty amazing.

Set in a high-tech and futuristic world, “Atlas” is a galaxy-spanning adventure written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite and directed by Brad Peyton, who previously helmed “San Andreas” and “Rampage.” It sounds promising and will launch on Netflix May 24th.

The “Atlas” ensemble cast is exciting and it includes:

Jennifer Lopez (The Mother, Enough)

Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience, Barbie)

Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us, American Fiction)

Gregory J. Cohan (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty)

Abraham Popoola (Andor)

Lana Parrilla (The Lincoln Lawyer, Once Upon a Time)

Mark Strong (Murder Mystery 2, Kingsman: The Secret Service).
