Why fans can’t get enough of “Schitt’s Creek”
For six incredible seasons, “Schitt’s Creek” graced our screens with its quirky humor, heartfelt moments, and unforgettable characters. Created by Dan Levy and his father Eugene Levy, this Canadian sitcom quickly became a cultural phenomenon, winning hearts around the world and amassing a devoted fanbase. As the series wrapped up in 2020, fans were left with a bittersweet feeling, longing for more of the Rose family and the eccentric residents of “Schitt’s Creek.” The show deservedly swept the 2020 Emmys in its final season with 7 awards including Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor and Actress, Supporting Actor and Actress, Writing, Directing, and more. It also won two Golden Globes for Best Television Series and Best Actress.
Now that we’ve sung its praises, fans eagerly await news of a potential “Schitt’s Creek” movie. Although six seasons nicely wrapped up the series beautifully, the clamor for more has only intensified. But what is it about this show that makes us yearn for more, even after its satisfying conclusion? Is David still wearing sweaters in the summer? Of course, he is. Is Alexis shining as a publicist? Has Moira reclaimed her fame? Have Johnny and Stevie opened more Rosebud Motels? These and more questions need to be answered and a “Schitt’s Creek” movie would no doubt be a huge hit among fans.
Why do we love these characters so much? From the moment we’re introduced to the opulent yet dysfunctional Rose family, to their subsequent relocation to the titular small town, “Schitt’s Creek” immersed us in a world filled with colorful characters and rich storytelling. The town itself felt like a character, with its motley crew of residents who each brought their own quirks and charms to the table. The show’s creators crafted a universe so vivid and inviting that fans couldn’t help but want to revisit it time and time again. Personally, I’ve re-watched it about 20 times!
At the heart of “Schitt’s Creek” were its characters—flawed, lovable, and endlessly entertaining. Whether it was the deadpan wit of Moira Rose, the endearing awkwardness of David, the earnestness of Johnny, or the exuberance of Alexis, each character was beautifully crafted and impeccably portrayed by the talented ensemble cast. Fans grew deeply attached to these characters and formed emotional connections that endured long after the final credits rolled.
In an uncertain world, “Schitt’s Creek” has served as a source of comfort and escapism for many fans. Its blend of humor, heart, and optimism offered a reassuring respite from the chaos of everyday life. Revisiting “Schitt’s Creek” still feels like coming home to old friends, and the prospect of a movie only adds to the sense of nostalgia and anticipation. It isn’t just a television show—it’s a cultural touchstone that has left an indelible mark on popular culture. From its representation of LGBTQ+ characters to its celebration of love, acceptance, and personal growth, the show’s themes resonate deeply with audiences around the world. A movie would not only give fans the chance to reconnect with their favorite characters but also allow the show’s creators to further explore the themes and messages that have made “Schitt’s Creek” so beloved.
I dare to speak for all the fans when I send out a plea to Dan and Eugene Levy: Please bring us back home to “Schitt’s Creek” one more time.
