It was a day of Lothcats, Rebels, and the Empire, as they faced off from the back alleys of Coruscant to the secret labs of Grand Moff Tarkin in the Imperial Assault Regionals sponsored by the Imperial Assault Continuity Project (IACP). The tournament was held at Mythic Games in Littleton, CO (amazing store, by the way) as members of the local group, the Walker Squadron, gathered with their squads to battle for supremacy and first place.

Characters galore at the IACP Regionals

For those who are not familiar with Imperial Assault, it is actually 2 games in one; an adventure based campaign game, like Dungeons and Dragons, and a skirmish wargame. Here in skirmish, players take the heroes, villains and unique characters, and build a squad to battle head-on with one another. Like other wargames, the game is played with miniatures on a grid-based map. In addition to the figures, players also have a deck of command cards they use to boost their units during battle.

In Tournament play like Magic the Gathering, players face off one on one, hoping their squad will be the victor. One thing I love about IA is that each skirmish has unique objectives to win. While units face-off and points are obtained by defeating units, points are also earned by achieving goals based on the scenario.

Players had squads ranging from a horde of creatures, Imperial Jet troopers and the dreaded tactical genius of Grand Admiral Thrawn, to a group of Jedi led by none other than Luke Skywalker himself. Even the newest characters, the Mandalorian and baby Yoda made an appearance, but it was Matt Hudson and his group with droids, creatures, and yes Greedo that was undefeated and won the day.

Undefeated player, Matt Hudson

While the game is no longer in production, it is still alive thanks to the IACP, who continues with original content and tournaments that connect players from around the world.

If this sounds like a good time, you are welcome to reach out to me, and I will gladly introduce you to the amazing world of IA skirmish.
