It’s all led up to this. 4 seasons. 50 episodes. A 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. There is only one final episode to go. There are still a hundred questions to be answered.

The final episode of the hit series ‘Evil,’ will air on Thurs., Aug. 22nd, 2024, on Paramount+, much to the chagrin and angst of fans all over the world. It feels like the show is still beginning, and there’s still so much story to tell. Alas, unless someone picks this show up, that story will remain untold.

The brain-child of Michelle and Robert King, ‘Evil,’ first aired in September 2019 on CBS. The first season introduced fans to an eclectic cast of characters, which includes Katja Herbers as psychologist Kristen Bouchard; Mike Colter as Father David Acosta; Aasif Mandvi as contractor/tech-geek Ben Shakir, and Christine Lahti as Sheryl Luria, who is Kristen’s mother. Other cast members include Michael Emerson as Dr. Leland Townsend; Andrea Martin as Sister Andrea; Kurt Fuller as Dr. Kurt Boggs; Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco, and Dalya Knapp as Kristen’s feisty four daughters; Wallace Shawn as Father Ignatius, as well as many others. As a cast, they work together like a dream, which is one reason fans of the show are wondering why in the world this series is ending.

The basic premise of ‘Evil,’ is this: a forensic psychologist, a Catholic priest (in training), and a carpenter all start to work for the Catholic Church, investigating reports of miracles, demonic possessions, hauntings, and various components of ‘evil’ or otherwise ‘ungodly’ occurrences. It’s almost like the setup for a bad joke. It is through their insight and speculation, after assessing their given cases, that they then offer their opinions to the hierarchy of the Church. This is a supernatural drama with many episodes ending in a “well, what-if?” feel. The show doesn’t disappoint when it comes to jump-scares, filthy demons, and questioning agnostics.

Over four seasons the story of ‘Evil’ has evolved from case-by-case episodes into a beautifully constructed tale that intertwines episode one all the way through to the finale. One can look back and see how finely construed the details, the events, and the absolute craziness that is ‘Evil,’ weave together to form one bizarre tapestry. With only one episode to go, no one is sure if the end will answer every question this show has raised over four seasons.

‘Evil’ could possibly still be saved. Lovers of the show are passionate about finding a new streaming service to pick this series up, so we can have a right proper storyline flow all the way until the end if ever an end is in sight. With one episode remaining, how can all the show’s loose ends be tied up? Unless the ‘Evil’ world ends, there’s no possible way. Perhaps that’s how this show plans to go out with a bang.

Watch the series finale of ‘Evil’ on Paramount+ on August 22nd, 2024, to conclude this epic tale about one of the most timeless themes of all: evil. Paramount+ has an incredible library of content. If you’re not already signed up, try Paramount+ for FREE and see what the network has to offer!
