As Deadline reports, the financing of a second season with another ten episodes has already been clarified. Alex Kurtzman, who is responsible for expanding the “Star Trek” universe at CBS, had already indicated at the announcement of the new series that they would like to tell the story over three seasons.
The signs are good that they can put their plans into practice. Deadline has learned from sources that the production of the second season could already start in spring. So far, CBS has not wanted to reveal whether all the actors are back in the game. However, if work on the sequel starts now, we may see the next ten episodes by the end of 2020 or early 2021. Of course, no one currently knows whether these plans will continue with the Coronavirus pandemic.
The background to the early extension is likely to be a $20.4 million US-Dollar relief granted to the series.
Whoopi Goldberg included in season 2
The well-known actress should be well known to all fans of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” as Guinan. At Captain Picard’s request, in 2365 she took over the “Ten Forward”, the lounge on board the Enterprise. There, the mysterious alien woman advises the crew and ensures her relaxation and soul hygiene. In the film “Star Trek: Nemesis” she can be seen as a guest at Riker’s wedding. She belongs to the people of the El-Aurians and she is very old. And maybe she is in the second season “Star Trek: Picard”.
You can watch “Star Trek: Picard” on Amazon Prime.
