“The Boys” currently on Amazon is based on a comic of the same name. It follows a group of, let’s call them vigilantes, as they take down morally corrupt ‘supes’ or heroes (to be clear they’re almost all entirely morally corrupt).

The series highlights all angles of the greater landscapes from the perspective of the heroes and through “The Boys.” While this show pulls no punches and is unapologetically graphic the source material itself makes the show look like a the Harry Potter ride. Still, the good folks at Amazon made great strides in creating some jaw-dropping moments and they should be lauded. Here is a wonderful walk down memory lane looking back at season 1.

5. Baby Blues

YouTube
Butcher and Mother’s Milk investigate a Vought facility and wind up finding out that genetically engineered super babies are being nursed there. Unfortunately, the guards come in and ruin all the snooping fun. There’s a moment that occurs in Butcher’s head when he decides that holding up a baby with laser eyes at the guards is just as good if not better than a gun, and he was right. Alarmingly so, as one of the guards gets his head lasered off almost immediately. A disturbingly visceral scene with the most adorable baby ever, and deadly, very very deadly.

4. Suppository Bomb

YouTube
Translucent, one of The Seven has been captured by Butcher and the gang. They realize very quickly how difficult it is to hold captive a Supe that is invisible and invulnerable. In comes Frenchie with a brilliant idea. Shove c4 up Translucent’s bum and rig a remote detonator. Of course, that was so logical. Well, Translucent decides to make a break for it and the only one in his way is poor Hughie. Translucent almost gets past him when Hughie seemed to have that enough is enough moment. And thusly the button was pressed. Translucent was everywhere!

3. Worst Save Ever

Homelander and Maive respond to an airplane being highjacked. They get on board and dispatch with the terrorists but the pilot is killed and the plane badly damaged. Maive starts rationalizing ways to save the passengers but Homelander, well he looks at it from another perspective. He rationalizes that the rescue is a lost cause, placating the passengers while making his way to the exit. Maive pleads with him to try and save a few but Homelander dismisses the idea. Those few would be able to tell the world the rest were left to die, a public relations nightmare to be sure. Even when the passengers start approaching Homelander and Maive he threatens them with certain death from his laser eyes, leaving the plane with Maive, letting it crash killing everyone on board. A true humanitarian that one.

2. Free Willy

YouTube
The Deep, oh The Deep. Where to begin? He is a member of the Seven that evokes cringing whenever he’s talking, or standing, or generally just on the screen. Here he gets it in his head to free a dolphin from Oceanland with the hopes of releasing it into the ocean. He has the dolphin trapped in a harness in the back of a van and on their way he has to ward off the sexually aggressive verbal advances of said dolphin only to have the police cut them off. Upon hitting the brakes we are treated to the sight of the dolphin flying through the van windshield and landing on the street whilst getting run over by a truck. Truly The Deep did not think this through at all nor in the slightest.

5. Gone Baby Gone

YouTube
In this opening sequence of the show, our main man Hughie is in love with Robin and Robin is in love with Hughie. They have the cutest relationship perfectly captured in a sweet kiss. Hughie is standing on the curb while Robin is barely in the street, then in a flash, she’s gone. Like gone. Hughie is then hit with shockwaves and blood droplets hover in the air. The scene speeds back to normal as A-Train, a member of the seven slows down covered in blood as a liquified Robin splat all over the street. Hughie is left holding her hands the only things that remain of Robin. If that just didn’t paint a picture of the insanity that lies ahead.
Season 2 is currently streaming and one can only wonder what will make the next top 5 list.
