As a self-proclaimed sci-fi enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for the next mind-bending series to dive into. Lately, I’ve realized that some of my favorite shows are on Apple TV+. For just $10 a month after a 7-day free trial, it happens to have some of the best sci-fi on right now. My method of madness? I sign up for a few months, binge everything I can, and then cancel until the new seasons roll around. If you’re in the same boat, here are my four must-see shows that should be on your radar! Counting down to number one are…
4. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
I’m a Kaiju maniac, and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is definitely binge-worthy. The series expands on the legendary MonsterVerse, intertwining human stories with the iconic and new kaiju. It takes us deep into the world of these giant creatures, exploring how they impact society and how, Monarch has kept these secrets all these years. The blend of action, suspense, and intricate storytelling ensures that every episode is packed with excitement. For fans of monster lore, this show is an absolute must-see. It stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, and recent Emmy-winning actress Anna Sawai. New season is due out late 2025.
3. Silo
“Silo” is set in a dystopian future where humanity lives in a massive underground silo, believing the outside world is uninhabitable. As secrets unravel and questions about the silo’s true nature arise, you’ll be glued to the screen. The atmospheric tension and rich storytelling make it a standout series that explores themes of survival, truth, and the human spirit. Each episode leaves you craving more, making it a perfect binge-watch candidate. It stars Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins, and Common. New season out Nov. 15, 2024.
2.For All Mankind
What if the space race never ended? “For All Mankind” takes this intriguing premise and runs with it, exploring an alternate history where the Soviet Union landed on the moon first. The series delves into the lives of astronauts and their families, showcasing the personal and political stakes of space exploration. With its stunning visuals and compelling character arcs, it’s a beautifully crafted tribute to the spirit of adventure and innovation. The current stars are Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, and Krys Marshall, but past stars have been amazing like Wrenn Schmidt, Jodi Balfour, and Michael Dorman. New season is due out late 2025.
1. Severance
“Severance” is a brilliant exploration of work-life balance—or the lack thereof. The premise revolves around a company that surgically separates work memories from personal ones, creating a chilling and thought-provoking narrative. It’s honestly pretty creepy! With stunning performances and a meticulously crafted world, it keeps you guessing at every turn. This is a show that challenges our relationship with work and identity, making it a must-watch for anyone intrigued by the implications of technology on our lives. Stars are Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Patricia Arquette. New season due out Jan. 17, 2025.
Apple TV+ has solidified itself as a powerhouse for sci-fi content and there are plenty of other shows to explore like “Dark Matter,” “Foundation,” and “See.” What are your recommendations?
