Jacky Lai is known for her roles in the popular sci-fi shows “Shadowhunters” and “V-Wars.” Fans know her well as Kaylee Vo in “V-Wars,” and her busy schedule has put her in “Candy Cane Candidate,” “Good News,” “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” and “A Sugar & Spice Holiday.” Now latest is a starring role as Rina Kimura in the exciting new film “Erase: Reborn” and it is really getting her noticed.
Jacky plays a crime boss’ wife who decides to turn state’s evidence. After fleeing to South Africa, she has to fight off merciless assassins. This reboot of the 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action “Eraser” looks to deliver plenty of action, and it is available on demand, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Check out the trailer.

Colleen Bement: Thank you for taking time out for this interview. I remember Schwarzenegger’s “Eraser” and I’m looking forward to “Eraser: Reborn.” It certainly looks just as intense! My first question is, what was life like on the set? Did you face some challenges?
Jacky Lai: Set was pretty busy, we worked 6 days a week, sometimes between two units- main and action. There was always a lot going on but we had the most amazing team; our director is one of the best I’ve worked with, John is so supportive and always open to ideas, and the cast was not only talented but collaborative and respectful. And then of course our crew who worked with their whole heart and made going to work every day so enjoyable.
In terms of challenges, I think we were very ambitious but like I said we had such a great team so it never felt impossible. And everyone was so dedicated to making the best out of what we had that the hard work actually brought us together.
CB: Did you have to learn some difficult stunt work?
JL: I wouldn’t say any of the stunts were difficult mostly because we had such an amazing stunt team who worked with us to form the choreography. They gave us space to interpret the moves based on our physicality and what we know about our characters.
CB: Would you happen to have another project in the works that you can tell us about, or are you taking some time to chill?
JL: I can’t speak about next projects as of yet but my team and I are reading a lot of scripts so what’s coming next will be very exciting!
CB: “Shadowhunters” was such a wonderful series and I know it’s missed. Would you happen to have a story from the set that you can share?
JL: Well, the kissing scene between Sydney (who plays my on-screen girlfriend) and I wasn’t actually written in the script. We were filming the finale and thought it’d be a nice moment so we asked Todd our showrunner and he agreed.
CB: Let’s get to know you a little better. What is your favorite country that you’ve visited, and what country are you dying to visit?
JL: One of my favourite countries has to be South Africa, I really love Capetown. A country I’d love to visit next would be Australia, it’s been on my list for a while now.
CB: What’s the latest TV show that you’ve binged?
JL: I’ve been binging ‘Barry’ – it’s always interesting watching an actor play an actor and then the circumstance he’s in just makes for an interesting show.
CB: What’s a recent film that you’ve seen?
JL: “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” That was a crazy ride, I highly recommend watching it more than once, there’s just so much going on and you don’t want to miss the details.
CB: What movie do you watch over and over?
JL: There’s not a lot I watch more than once but my go-to is a good romantic comedy/comedy. “Brooklyn 99” is something I can put on and know it’ll be a good time.
