Who knew black and white television could be so riveting in 2021? The creators of “WandaVision” did. The new original Disney Plus series premiered with its two first episodes, and they were an interesting ride.
If fans remember correctly Vision died at the hands of Thanos, and his romance with Wanda never had the chance to play out. Though they were AWOL for a year and that was canon, the timeline of this show is unclear at the moment. However, the entire feel of it has an “Inception” vibe, as it’s a show, inside of a show.
The first episode takes place right in the ’50s or ’60s and starts as any drama series would on that day. It has a tongue in cheek theme song, and a very PG plot. The characters just live their lives in this time era and navigate being “human” though they do have their powers here, and aren’t quite “human”.
Fans can see Vision turn into his human form every time he is about to leave the house or interact with other humans. Wanda has to hide her powers will using them to get through her days in this TV universe they are in. For example, they act like a couple in the ’50s, but they don’t know how to do anything to fit in, and they have to learn.
Right off the bat, it seems they are living in some sort of a simulation, not to give *too* many spoilers, but as a character starts choking, his wife starts to glitch. Like a computer malfunction, Wanda seems to get lost in thought as she realizes something is wrong before snapping out of it and asking Vision to save the man.
At the end of both episodes, as the show closes with them looking into the camera like a RomCom of that time, the camera pulls out to see the “WandaVision” TV show on a small screen of a lab or studio, with human taking notes. There is also a weird symbol that is in the studio and continues to appear mysteriously, which apparently is a S.H.E.I.L.D-like organization called SWORD.
Throughout the first episode, fans get more clues that something isn’t right and this may be a simulation of sorts when Wanda starts to see a few things in color, though it’s all in black and white. Or when Wanda can hear a voice on the radio pleading to her, asking how she got stuck here. Or the most telling when Wanda and Vision hear a noise and step outside to investigate, and they see a man in a beekeeper suit emerge from underground and creepily stare. All of the sudden, the episode rewinds, and restarts the scene, but finishes it differently, as if they weren’t supposed to see that.
Also by the end of the second episode, all become color and Wanda is now pregnant by immaculate conception.
This show has started off incredibly confusing and amazing, as no doubt it was intended to. It is very funny, has cute plots, and a quite recognizable cast for the audience’s viewing pleasure. Fans are eager to see where this show goes next, how it will all start to unfold. This is definitely a show that is worth viewing and being excited for as it continues.
