HBO Max has announced that it has ordered a prequel to Stephen King’s horror classic “IT,” titled “Welcome to Derry.” The series will take audiences back to the fictional town of Derry, Maine, where “IT” is set, and explore the origins of the terrifying creature that haunted the town’s children.
The new prequel series will be produced by Vertigo Entertainment, the production company behind the 2019 “IT” film. The series will be written by David Kajganich, known for his work on “The Terror” and “True Story,” and will be directed by “The Batman” director Matt Reeves.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content said We are thrilled to continue this iconic franchise with the brilliant Andy and Barbara Muschietti, Jason Fuchs, and Brad Caleb Kane. This prequel will expand the IT storytelling canvas and bring fans deeper into the terrifying, mesmerizing town of Derry.Â
The series will delve into the history of the town and the origin of the evil entity known as Pennywise. The series will explore the events that led up to the events of the original novel and will introduce audiences to new characters and storylines.
For horror fans, “Welcome to Derry” will surely be an exciting addition to HBO Max’s lineup. With a talented team behind the series and the rich source material of Stephen King’s novel, it’s likely that “Welcome to Derry” will be a must-watch for fans of the horror genre.
The announcement of “Welcome to Derry” is sure to excite fans of both Stephen King and the “IT” franchise. The original novel was published in 1986 and has since been adapted into several successful films and television series. The most recent adaptation, released in 2019, was a box office hit, grossing over $700 million worldwide. No release date for “Welcome to Derry” has been announced. Stay tuned.
