Jack O’Neill, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, and Teal’c.
It has been since 1997 since the brave crew of SG-1 stepped through the stargate to visit worlds like Abydos and Chulak. The fan-favorite sci-fi series ran from 1997-2007 and included actors, writers, and directors who have been busy. Created by Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright, it spawned sequels such as “Stargate Atlantis,” Stargate Universe,” multiple TV movies, and a video game. The original cast of ‘Stargate SG-1” is keeping busy with plenty of projects. Where are they now? Let’s find out.
Richard Dean Anderson, who played Jack O’Neill, continued his acting career, although infrequently after the show ended. Our fearless leader has spent time designing his home and hasn’t been seen too often in public. As an actor, Anderson has taken it easy with just a couple roles in shows like “Don’t Trust the B—-in Apartment 23,” “Raising Hope,” and voiced the video game “Stargate SG-1: Unleashed.” He also produced some projects such as “Why Just One?” and the short comedy “Glove.”
Amanda Tapping was another favorite with her role as Colonel Samantha Carter. After “SG-1” ended, she had spots on the “Stargate Atlantis,” as well as the TV movies. She was known to “Supernatural” fans by playing the super-rude angel. Naomi. Tapping has also become one of the most sought-after directors in TV. A star of her own series, “Sanctuary” (2008-11), she has since been involved with a myriad of productions both onscreen and behind the scenes including “Motherland: Fort Salem,” “First Kill,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” “Batwoman,” “The Flash,” and acted in 5 episodes in “Travelers.”
Michael Shanks was one of the most beloved characters in the show: Dr. Daniel Jackson. Fans fell for that floppy hair and glasses and connected deeply with his character. After his run with “SG-1” ended Shanks has been very busy with recurring roles and guest roles non-stop. Recently he has been spotted in “The Good Doctor,” “Project Blue Book,” “Virgin River,” “Altered Carbon,” and so many more projects. “Supernatural” fans also remember him from the episode ’99 Problems.’
Christopher Judge brought life to the character of Teal’c throughout all ten seasons of “SG-1.” Following the end of its run Judge guest-starred in “Leverage,” “Major Crimes,” “Criminal Minds.” Lately, he’s enjoyed plenty of voice work for video games such as God of War: Ragnarok, The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!), Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 & Lego Marvel Avengers. His voice is also recognized from his role as Oreskis in “Final Space.”
Ben Browder stepped in after “RDA” left the show and took the helm of SG-1 as Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell. He has been acting with spots on “Walker,” “Ike Boys,” S.W.A.T., “All Rise,” and more. Did you spot him in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”? Side note: Browder spoke at popular Denver area convention a few years ago and had the audience laughing hard at his stories.
Honorable mention: Gary Jones, our favorite who opened the iris and closed the iris, has been very busy. He’s had roles in TV shows like “Forgotten Masters,” “Morning Show Mysteries,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” “Travelers.” He is also the brains behind “Forgotten Masters” alongside Ken Lawson. Be sure to check out “Forgotten Masters”
