“Don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not worth it.”
“Wonder Woman” herself, Gal Gadot is using her fame in a positive and inspirational way to make an impact on the world. National Geographic Presents “Impact with Gal Gadot” enjoyed a virtual world premiere yesterday, Apr. 26, 2021. Nat Geo could not have found a more appropriate host to narrate the six-part short-form documentary series. This film follows these powerful stories of amazing young women from around the world. It tells of these inspiring people who have overcome horrible hardships such as genocide, gang violence, poverty, discrimination, and oppression. Despite the terrible odds they were dealt, these ladies “dare to dream, stand out, speak up, and lead.”
Picture a group of young girls in Detroit with all the hardships and helplessness they often feel, they are given the opportunity to learn to ice skate at the Detroit Skating Club. Kameryn, their teacher, spends five-six days a week giving these girls their own time where they can release their pressures. This inspirational young woman is making an impact. One of these girls even writes poetry that challenges others by saying that “violence is not the way.”
Another woman has a story to share with others. She lost her sister to COVID. Despite being devastated, she not only found a way to move on, but she also created a sort of ‘therapy on a surfboard’ program. Women are drawn to her four-day experience in the ocean to not only learn how to surf, but to reach deep within themselves to heal the hurt they are experiencing.
“You have everything within you to show up.”
Then there is the lovely young woman in Rio, Brazil. Watch this beautiful and talented dancer who lives in the toughest neighborhood of Rio, Brazil shine through her dancing. With gunshots ringing in the streets below, she takes a breath, and with a powerful smile, continues performing for the camera crew. These stories and many more are spotlighted in this Nat Geo documentary.
The trailer brings on goosebumps and deep breaths as viewers watch these young women from San Juan, Half Moon Bay, Detroit, Rio de Janeiro, Grand Caillou, and Memphis. It shows the strength and beauty in resilience. Executive producers Gal Gadot, Jaron Varsano (My Dearest Fidel), and Academy Award-winning director Vanessa Roth (Freehold) developed this project.
