It has been eight days since Trixie Mattel (Brian Firkus) and Katya Zamolodchikova’s (Brian McCook) book Guide to Modern Womanhood was released. Today the news came out that the book made it to Number Two on the New York Times Best Seller List self-help section.

After spending the past week reading, we can see why. The pair have an avid fanbase—including us here at Nerd Alert News. However, we do not feel this is the only reason for their success. The book is very well written and well thought out. You can see and feel the love and dedication that went into the writing.

The back of the book calls the book a “satirical guide to beauty and homemaking.” While the book is meant to be a parody of the self-help genre, it also has some hidden gems of actual advice. When you peel away the layers of comedy and humor, you find some really amazing advice.

There is a section in which Katya speaks of self-love, addressing how you really need to take time to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. She ends the section by stating, “Take a moment each day to convince yourself everything’s fine and it could very well get even better, but it is only likely to happen if you can keep your legs dry.”

Trixie has a section on makeup and being that she has worked as a makeup artist and has her own makeup line, she is actually a person who is set up to be giving advice in this matter. She pillows her advice with jokes, but the advice is never lost. In the section about blush, she recalls wearing a lot of the cosmetic when younger and jokingly says that people thought she had unaddressed rosacea, or “maybe people thought [she] was a young woman ovulating.”

This is the kind of hybrid humor and advice that the book contains. It perfectly melds both facets into one perfect collection of sentences and paragraphs. We found ourselves laughing and smiling while taking in all the words. The book got just personal enough to get a sense of why the advice was being given, but not too deep to where you were sobbing into the pages.

The tone was overall jovial and light, which made for a pleasurable experience. We even find ourselves wanting to re-read it right away because we were left feeling so energized at the end of it. We believe the book is such a hit because the authors who wrote it believed in what they wrote. A book is only as good as the person or persons behind writing it. For us, we could tell a lot of heart and thought went into the creation of this book.

We do not want to give too much away because we are hoping you will go and order a copy yourself. The book is really well written and we thoroughly enjoyed our time reading it. If none of our praise got you interested, there are a plethora of beautiful pictures (like the one above) of definitely fierce biological women inside. And who doesn’t love to look at pictures?

You can go buy the book on Barnes & Noble, Books A MillionBookshop.org.  Hudson Booksellers,    IndieBound, Powell’s, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.

Today also marked the announcement of “uNNNHhhh” returning for all-new episodes on August 5th! Make sure to tune in and catch Katya and Trixie on Youtube for brand new content in two weeks!
