Hold on to your Sparks, looks like Optimus Prime and crew are making their way to the small screen via Netflix. The new show titled “Transformers: War for Cybertron” is being billed as a trilogy and gives us a look into Transformers lore as it takes place in the final hours of the war on Cybertron.

At first glance, the CGI design seems unique to the franchise. The character designs have abandoned a hyper-stylization, as we have seen in other iterations, for a more detailed and toy accurate design. The tonality of the show comes across as much more grim and dark. There is a very real sense that this is war and according to Prime himself in the trailer, it’s not going well. The scenes and soundtrack are setting up a very heavy sense of drama with impending doom looming over the Autobot’s heads.

Here is the official synopsis:

The war that has torn apart their home planet of Cybertron is at a tipping point. Two leaders, Optimus Prime and Megatron, both want to save their world and unify their people, but only on their own terms. In an attempt to end the conflict, Megatron is forced to consider using the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, to “reformat” the Autobots, thus “unifying” Cybertron. Outnumbered, outgunned, and under SIEGE, the battle-weary Autobots orchestrate a desperate series of counterstrikes on a mission that, if everything somehow goes right, will end with an unthinkable choice: kill their planet in order to save it.

Transformers have featured the Autobot /Deception struggle on countless shows and movies but so far from what I’ve seen in this preview, they’ve captured a unique aesthetic/tone. Coupled with being set in the most crucial point in time of their conflict the stage is set for a resounding new entry in the franchise.

“Transformers: War for Cybertron” will premiere July 30, 2020, on Netflix.

The voice cast for “Transformers: War For Cybertron” Trilogy: Siege includes: Jake Foushee (Optimus Prime); Jason Marnocha (Megatron); Linsay Rousseau (Elita-1); Joe Zieja (Bumblebee); Frank Todaro (Starscream); Rafael Goldstein (Ratchet); Keith Silverstein (Jetfire); Todd Haberkorn (Shockwave, Red Alert); Edward Bosco (Ultra Magnus, Soundwave); Bill Rogers (Wheeljack); Sophia Isabella (Arcee); Brook Chalmers (Impactor); Shawn Hawkins (Mirage); Kaiser Johnson (Ironhide); Miles Luna (Teletraan I, Cliffjumper); and Mark Whitten (Sideswipe, Skywarp).
