Station Eleven is a post-apocalyptic drama spanning several timelines after a devastating flu destroys the world, leaving few survivors. The story follows their attempts to re-build society and reimagine the world. The original 10-episode limited series is based on the 2014Â international bestseller by Emily St. John Mandel and is written and executive produced by Patrick Somerville.
The book starts out introducing a theatre troupe while in the middle of a production of King Lear when news of the mysterious Georgia flu hits. The story jumps in time to follow a nomadic group of actors and musicians as they work to rebuild. It is not known how closely the HBO Max limited series will follow the book’s narrative.
Daniel Zovatto will play The Prophet, the charismatic leader of a mysterious cult of young people. Zovatto is best known for his work on “Penny Dreadful” as Tiago Vego.
Lori Petty will portray The Conductor, the leader of a group of Shakespeare performers. Petty has a large number of film credits, most recently playing Lolly Whitehall in “Orange is the New Black.” Her acting career has spanned over 35 years and she has appeared in many popular films such as “Tank Girl,” “A League of Their Own,” and “Point Break.”
Zovatto and Petty join a number of newly added reoccurring guest stars. Andy McQueen, best known for “Books of Blood and “The Coroner,” will play Sayid. Sayid is a charming actor in the traveling symphony.
Actor and writer David Cross, best known for “Arrested Development,” portrays Gil, an intelligent but moody theatre director. Enrico Colantoni will play Brian, an agent to an A-List actress until the pandemic ends the world as they knew it. Colantoni is known for his work on “Veronica Mars.” Rounding out the announced reoccurring cast is Julian Obradors who will portray Tyler. Tyler is the young son of two movie stars. Obradors is known for his work in “7th & Union.” The previously announced cast includes Mackenzie Davis as Kristin, Danielle Deadwyler as Miranda, and Himesh Patel as Jeevan.
Creator Patrick Somerville, who also serves as the series showrunner, is known well by HBO viewers for his work on the popular show “The Leftovers.” Paramount Television Studios serves as the studio. Hiro Murai is set to direct. Both Somerville and Murai are Executive Producers of the project. Filming began in January in Chicago. A 2021 release date is planned.
