Board game heaven was found at HexaCon this past weekend. Four full days and nights were spent at the at the Ramada Plaza Denver North, Denver Fri. Jan 18-Mon. Jan. 21, 2019 and the MLK holiday weekend was never this much fun. The competition was key while only the fun was taken seriously. Attendees soaked in the gaming fever playing games old and new.
The programming schedule was off the hook with board games, miniatures, role-playing games, train games, and a vendor room to snag those much-needed miniatures and dice. Even if someone did find some spare time, there was a giant wall of board games to grab and play.
There were even freshly made mini donuts for quick snacks!
Sentinels of the Multiverse was one of the games being played in the main room. Jim happened to be a huge fan of the game and owns the entire expansion set. He has a passion for the game and loves to come to HexaCon and share it with other gamers. It is a collaborative game about superheroes where everyone works together to defeat a villain. The cards actually look like comic book pages.
Just around the corner was a seriously giant version of Robo Rally that was spread across the floor. Set in the future where rundown old factories had been converted into racetracks for robots. This adventure incorporates multiple game-play elements such as options that are added to the robots. One might have a high powered laser, or a rear-firing laser, or even crab legs that might help the robot to prevail.
Artist and cartoonist Guy S. Davis was hanging out that weekend and shared about his experience designing some of the game cards for the exciting new game Earth Tau. The talented artist shared some personal battles he had overcome and was truly an inspiration. Game creator, Alex Mensen was also on hand to explain how this new adventure was played. Each card was essentially a work of art. The players became agents responsible for the coordination and deployment of what
At the next table over was Spyglass game Venom Assualt. This is a dice-based combat game that takes place in fairly modern times of the year 2020. The gamers use cards to battle Venom who is busy trying to take over the world. Players gather new recruitment vehicles to combat Venom leaders and there are 12 different missions and every mission has a different outcome. Coming out in March on Kickstarter will be an expansion called Villians of Valor.
