When the girl he’s always loved gets married to another man, Diggsy gets an opportunity to explore parallel universes to find another version of her who might love him back.

Let’s face it, we all have that one person who has been crushing on forever. We spend hours each daydreaming up the perfect world in which we could be with them. What if we actually could visit those worlds and find that perfect one? Would you leave your family and life as you know it behind? In “Another Version Of You,” Kristopher Wente‘s character Diggsy Ellston is faced with this choice. However, his choice is met with a catch, he can never go back to a universe, once a door is closed.

Another Version Of You is an indie sci-fantasy film that follows Diggsy, a man in search of the perfect version of Suzette, the woman he has loved since he was a child. However, the film is not really a romance film. It strays from being a traditional love story into a story of self-discovery with a mix of sci-fi and fantasy.

Diggsy, after some hesitation, decides to journey on to different parallel universes, using a special key given to him by a stranger in a bar, to search for the perfect version of Suzette. His Suzette has just gotten married, and he is left heartbroken and unable to accept that he can never be with her. Throughout his journey, he meets many versions of his friends and many Suzettes and even people who he would never have met had he stayed in his universe. Like any journey, it is filled with ups and downs, surprises, and heartache.

Wente’s portrayal of Diggsy is raw and real. The borderline between regret and acceptance of a new life is subtly under the surface throughout the film. His chemistry with his co-stars Sara Antonio (Suzette), CJ Perry (Gwenyth) and Brittany Belland (Daphne) was refreshing and a joy to watch.

This movie really was an emotional roller coaster but in a delightful way. You wound up at the end, perfectly okay with the end, even though it wasn’t the end you originally wanted, or secondly wanted, or wanted three-quarters the way through. The result of the journey is perfectly fitting because at its core the movie wasn’t about finding the love of your life, it was finding a way to be okay with who you are and being happy without reliance on another human.

On top the refreshing spin on the perfect romance story, the movie is filling with stunning cinematography, which makes for a visually stunning movie. As a lover of photography myself, I found myself falling in love with the stunning scenery that accompanied this movie.

Overall the “Another Version Of You” was a dramatic, emotional, comedic, and tense story told through the eyes of a man driven by his heart. His journey starts as a journey for love but ends with self-discovery and happiness. It is easy to see why last year, it won the 2018 Audience Award at the Nashville Film Festival (as Other Versions of You)
