Ever hear that song – the one that takes you back to a time in your life that has long since past? We all have.
There is a theme song that I heard in my home every week growing up, one that meant I was taking a trip to a world that I loved and where I felt safe. In the last several months that song, and all of those memories, have made a reappearance in my daily life. Where it once only held a piece of my past, now it also represents a part of my future. That’s right folks, “Beverly Hills 90210” is back for 6 weeks!
Starting tonight, Aug. 7, 2019, we get to take a trip down memory lane with David, Donna, Brandon, Brenda, Kelly, Andrea, and the amazing cast that brought these characters to life a few short decades ago. “BH90210” begins with our favorite 90s cast getting together once more to discuss making a reboot of their iconic TV show.
There will be an element of drama and comedy as each one of them will play a “heightened version” of themselves, with other actors portraying their real-life families. According to Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, the goal was to keep people guessing at how much of the portrayal is the truth and how much is dramatized.
Unlike the original airing almost 30 years ago in 1990, fans have been treated to dozens of clips, postings, and interviews concerning the new show. Seeing Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and Jason Priestly along with Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Shannon Doherty, and Gabrielle Carteris together has added to the already exciting news that we will once again be going to Beverly Hills.
There has also been a lot of buzz within the 90210 fandom about the only member of the original cast that will not be a part of “BH90210.” Luke Perry, who played rebel Dylan McKay, passed away earlier this year just following the official announcement of the reboot. For many fans, this has made the excitement bittersweet. As wonderful as it is for them to have a version of the show back on the air, as Jennie Garth put it, it will be missing some heart. The cast has been very reassuring that Luke will be remembered within the episode in a respectful and simple way, believing that fans will be happy with the way it was handled.
I’m expecting a lot of laughs and quite a few tears as I return to my favorite zip code. Won’t you join me tonight as we tune into FOX to see what the “BH90210” cast has up their sleeve? I’ll bring the popcorn and ice cream!
